  1. It's also moving more systems on Nintendogs Sells Quarter of a Millions Units · · Score: 2, Informative

    From IGN:

"Nearly 15 percent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week, a virtually unprecedented adoption rate for any title on an established system," said Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime. "And it's also helping sell new DS hardware. Coupled with a price drop to $129.99, retailers are reporting DS sales up between one and a half and three times previous levels, and last week DS comfortably outsold our portable competitors."

I own a miniature daschund and I also purchased Nintendogs (miniature dashund version even) It has been much easier to teach my Nintendog new tricks. My real dog only knows a few tricks and one is just rolling onto his back and being as hard to pick up as possible when I tell him I have to go to work.

Why can't people own both? Maybe they aren't too lazy to raise real pets. Maybe they are just pet/dog fanatics. I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of the younger female DS owners actually have dogs at home as well. That's how it goes around my part of town at least. The family is made up of a few children, mom and dad, and for the most part, a pet or two. These are the same families that are purchasing Nintendogs for their kids. They didn't want a tamagotchi back in the day because they were to lazy for a real one or they didn't like their dog. They bought one because they were cool and fun to play with and the experience was different from playing with their real pets.

It looks like Main Event is only a Texas thing so it's not very widespread. Gameworks is nice too but again, they don't have them everywhere. They do have all you can play for $10 bucks on Thursday from 7pm to close. There are also a large number of Putt-Putts in the D/FW area. Some of them have become lame but there are still enough that have games to play.

I started a business as an arcade operator (putting games in other locations and giving the business owner a % of the cash) but eventually the money that was coming in died down enough that I sold off my games and stopped doing that all together.

Do they have adult entertainment centers in your area? I'm talking like Main Event, Dave and Busters type places. Full of arcade games, pool tables and beer. They make the younger kids leave early so the adults can stay late. Main Event has bowling, a smoking room and two bars as well as laser tag and a huge arcade. I play Beatmania III every time I go.

  7. Multiboot games for GBA on Nintendo DS Wireless Game Roundup · · Score: 1

IGN has a good list of games that can be played by multiple people with only one cart using the GBA. This isn't wireless...it's wired multiplayer but it's still a pretty good and interesting list to check out. It's a bit dated so I'm sure they should have more on the list but I thought it might be of interest since we are talking about handhelds and multiplayer.

You got me to thinking about Gauntlet 3 for the Lynx. I had that game but I never got a chance to play it multiplayer. Was it 8 player? I know you could pick from ten different characters and I found the list of characters online. Elf, Valkyrie, Wizard, Warrior, Pirate, Gunfighter, Samurai, Android, Nerd and Punkrocker. Gauntlet 8 player would have been pretty cool. I remember the Lynx pushing the more than 2 player multiplayer aspect...it was just that almost no one had a Lynx to play with. Finding 8 people to play with would have been impossible for me at the time.

It was also one of those games where you had to actually rotate the lynx to play it. That wasn't very ergonomic at all.

  9. Pioneer LaserActive on A Look Back At Expensive System Launches · · Score: 1

The Pioneer LaserActive was freaking expensive when it came out (main unit around $700). I think it was more than the 3D0. The add on modules for the Genesis or TG-16 cost more than the original systems were running at the time. I think the LaserActive counts as a game system. It had laser disk games that you couldn't play on anything else at the time.

Interesting commentary on today's society...people would rather invest in a virtual dog than accept the responsibility of owning an actual pet.

I could see it helping from a parents standpoint. Their child is begging them for a dog but the parents "know" that their child won't take care of it, give it water, feed it on a regular basis, etc. Instead they get the child Nintendogs. It helps teach responsibility to the child (the dog will run out into the neighborhood if you neglect it) and show whether or not the child could be trusted with a real animal....maybe, I don't know, I'm just going with it.
