When I was younger, 40 odd years ago, I used to wonder why America was considered a bastion of freedom. Possession of certain plants were highly illegal, being a communist was illegal, kids who went to the States for a year of schooling came back with stories about having to swear allegiance to the flag every day much like in a dictatorship. Black people were finally being allowed to use the same washrooms as white people. They could with a straight face have a constitution which stated all men were equal and allowed slavery. America always seemed like the ultimate example of successful propaganda.

While I'm sure prisons aren't a fun place to spend time at, no where I have I ever seen any proof that lots of people get raped in american prisons and jails.

Yes, I absolutely blame the criminal. After all, many of us here on slashdot have the technical ability (or could get it easily: some of these folks are really smart) to do this same type of criminal activity. They don't do it because they aren't criminals. Who the heck else would we blame but the person responsible for committing the crime? Now, if you want to talk about "the system" (justice system, not the banking system) and how unfortunate it is that it is nearly impossible to get a job after being in prison once - yes, that is tough and the summary alludes to the "hard times" iceman fell on probably due to the stigma of his earlier crime and resulting prison sentence. This can, and often is, extremely difficult to overcome and can mean years of living on handouts from relatives, living in campgrounds, etc. (can you tell I have a brother in law who has been through this?). However, the fact remains that the crime is the responsibility of the criminal and not the banking system. If the credit card system was more secure, this criminal would have went after the next most lucrative thing.
Or how about the peeps are smart enough not to get caught?
You only hear about the peeps that get caught, you don't hear about the frauds that don't ever get caught.
After all, isn't that what jail is for? for the people who are too poor, or too stupid. (and both)
MS is a huge ass company, and it's making money, so it gets a tax break?
Oil companies, during a time with demand for oil was high, and it seem the oil in the market was low, breaks in record profits, and nothing happens.
Banks do bad, lose everyones money, and gets bailed out. (I like it this way: The banks parents said we are going out of town, don't have a party, and your watching yourself for the next 2 days. parents come home to a burnt down house, kids get a new car. Or my favorite: Junkie spends rent on drugs, and you give the junkie more rent money)
k, i'm not like an expert in most anything, but common sense tells me this is called our goverment is enabling corporations to be not responsible.
Granted I can't stand MS, so maybe everything i say about them is biased, but since I live in Washington State, and MS, who is based here, has their corporation out of arizona or somewhere too hot for me to like, so they don't even pay taxes to our state like they should.

Religons have proven time and time again to cause wars, hatred, and forced beliefs on other cultures. And while you don't want to admit it, religons are losing their place in the mindsets of humans.
