I've rencently been installing Gentoo (stage 1, of course) onto my Toshiba Satellite laptop because I wanted the challenge, plus wanted to learn the in's and out's of installing linux. And so far i've learned alot.
But, back to the topic on hand. What MS needs to do is put out a version of Windows XP without IE in it, no outlook, no messenger. it can be without a media player for all I care. If any program needs a web browser/html renderer, it can use whatever you installed in the system (firefox).
That would make me happy. I do not use Windows media player, I think it sucks. But what I really hate is how in the right click context menus, windows media player has different commnands, like play, queue, so on. Those I would like to delete or change to work with my system default player (winamp, usually), or beable to config to what player I want it to use (like how you can change the browser or email program to what you want). If anyone knows how to change the stuff on the right click context menu in windows, please let me know.
Well, According to the WWE (formally WWF) they didn't have a problem changing their name, since it was more inline with their new image (as Wrestling Masters of the World, or should I say, Sports Entertainment, which takes the form of stage violence in a homo erotic wrestling setting)
while I'm not trying to knock your programming expertise, or anything, I don't understand how you can expect so much from the Xbox360 when you haven't seen anything play on it? Yes, MS is throwing some nice specs out there, just like Sony is about the Cell chips. Just like Nvidia and Ati does about new GPU's, etc... It's marketing hype and most of the people here are falling for it head over heals. What if programming these new chips are hard (like Sega Saturn was?), what if these PowerPC chips are crappy? So what if they go 3.2 ghz and has 3 different cores? Why don't we wait until we actually see some games in action, you know, like live demos, not taped bullshit?
um, first, where did you get the $400 price? second, who said the Xbox360 can do Doom 3 at 1920x1080? Either show me a vid of someone playing it, or you stop trolling. I do know, for a fact, that you can play Doom 3 at 1600x1200 with 70+ fps on a PC.
But you are right, a $300 to $400 PC couldn't push those sort of graphics, but until the Xbox360 is being sold for that price, it's not worth that much. Since the hardware makers usually take a lost on hardware, then that makes the systems worth more, until everyone can get them at the listed price. After all, when the Xbox specs were announced, they were better then what was out at the time, but by the time it got released, the PC's were cheaper and closer, and it didn't take long before the cost came down. But that doesn't matter. The fact is, the Xbox360 isn't made to replace the home computer. Or at least, according to their track record with the Xbox, they don't intended that. Matter of fact, MS doesn't want anyone using their Xbox(360) for anything other then what they intended it for. While the specs are very nice, and the first adopters are going to probably have a cool factor, history has taught me to wait...
Babbster posted the following: " This is why moving first on their new home console may be a big benefit to Microsoft...."
Yes, just like the Dreamcast helped Sega. or the Jaguar helped Atari?
Personally, I'm not holding my breath. I haven't seen the Xbox 360 in action, and sure, from it's specs it sounds nice. But then, the Cell chips sound very nice for the PS3. Not to mention Nintendo might actually have something very good this time around (but once again, I'm not holding my breath).
once the machines are out, and games are out for them, then I can make judgements.
But the problem with the consoles is technology can rapidly outpace them. Sure, Xbox360 may be nothing like we currently have now, but by the xmas 2005 we will see things like PPU add-in cards (PhysX Chip http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1117/AGEIA-Tec hnologies-Interview/p1 ) Which has the ability to completely change gaming. But of course, how much depends on how the final product works. There is a chance it's in the Xbox360, but I doubt it. They would of mentioned it by now I would think. Seems to me the addition of one of these chips would be ideal to console makers.
"With specs this impressive, it's easy to see why a few of us wondered how they planned to make a profit, given that they were already operating at a loss as a result of hardware costs for the current platform. "This time, we own the silicon [chip designs]. We can have [the chips] manufactured at different foundries to keep costs down."
Doesn't sound to me like they need to wait on IBM to make anything. They can have the lowest bidder make cpu's for them. Not to mention, later down the road, other parts of the system might end up on new chips (like they did with the original playstation and the newer PSOne) to keep costs down ever farther.
The BSA sent a letter to Millienum Digital Cable (Seattle) telling them that he had shared the Spider-man 2 PC game using Bit-torrent. They then turn his account off and told him they will turn it back on when he signs a statement agreeing not to share copy-righted material. He told them to fuck off and switch to another.
of course, that is when he asked me to show him how to do the binaries in the newsgroups. Millienum has excellent newsgroups. I mean, great retention, alot of the right groups. but anyways, goes to show, not only was "bit-torrent" not safe, and "warez" aren't safe.
he said the game sucked (which is does) and had deleted like 2 days after he had got it. I don't know if they gave BSA his name and stuff, the letter didn't say that.
This just seems like a stupid publicity stunt, probably going to be CGI that we watch on July 4. I mean, come on. let's let the people think they are safe from asteroids or other space bound objects, and we will give them a great show, the best fireworks they will ever see on the 4th of July.
next it will be alien invasion they fight off for next years 4th.
Yes, I'm sure it's all real and above board. Just like the WMD in Iraq.

I used to be in the position where the library wouldn't let me check out books because they claimed I owed them $128 for overdue/non returned materials. Even though I tried to proved that I didn't check them out (from a library I never went to, during a time when I had lost my wallet). So I'd just take what I wanted, and return it later. sure, I was stealing them, but I was returning what I stolen after I was done with it.
maybe I was in the wrong for doing that, but I felt I didn't have a choice, they wouldn't let me check anything out.
What really pisseed me off, was I used to get new books, maybe I read them once, or didn't want them, I'd give them to the library. Then I found out they sell all the donations they give, and use that money to buy new books. How stupid is that? I give them a brand new book, they sell it for probably 1/4 or less of the price. Namely, Seattle Public librarys suck.
and no, I no longer use them. I just download the books i want to read in ebook format, and read them on my PDA.

and if the psp came out able to play dvd's, you'd bitch about it being too big.
But since it's a consumers market, you get to show your opinion by not buying it. So go buy your nintendo DS, and bitch later about how all the games on the PSP look and play much better.
Personally, I like that the PSP takes memory sticks. I think it's a great idea. mainly since memory sticks can be used in a whole bunch of different stuff, unlike the DS game carts that are only usuable in the DS.
(if the DS has ports for memory sticks, cool, but I don't think they do)

Why is there people who actually bother to check up on what people post and then complain about it as an AC?
God, there is so much more you can do on internet then follow up on posters to whine about them trying to get "mod" points. I mean, really now, are you that much of a loser that something like that bothers you so much you have to post about it?
Tell you what, if mod points are that important to you, next time I get mod points I will let you use them, since I just ignore that I have them usually.
Just for those who cares, I do not know the person the AC is fixated on.

weird, almost all college students I see carry backpacks around.
Do you carry your books and papers in your hands? Balance them on your head?
