Okay, you got old cases, that have gone nowhere. Now, you are hoping that the chance that someone will browse the website and be able to give a clue to an old case? Seriously?
I guess this makes old detectives feel better for not solving cases during their careers, that by putting this out there, maybe, just maybe, after cars start flying, someone with info will browse the website and say something!!!!
iShock, the app for the easily distracted. When you stray from your work apps, the iShock will gently remind you via electric shock to get back on task!
Actually, they state that the 3-8% better maximum compression than zlib is 2-3 orders of magnitude longer to compress.
I can't imagine what kind of content you're hosting that'd justify 3 orders of magnitude compression time to gain 3% compression.
Static content that only has to be compressed once, yet is downloaded hundreds of thousands or millions of times. 3-8% is a pretty significant savings in that case.
Word, when I'm downloading the latest pirated release of a 1080p movie, or some big ass game, that 3% will save the host a lot of bandwidth, which is good.
Of course, with limited download amounts, that will even be better.
Chances of this being used? Probably only for game "rips", everything else, nill.
Game studios are NOT innovative. They keep making games based on 5+ year old tech, while the tech world has moved well beyond it. Most PC games are straight ports without anything added to make it better.
Okay, now that we have new consoles, that is supposed to change? For what, 2 years? Then once again, the tech will be beyond what consoles can do, and yet, everything released will be based on the current generation of console tech, no matter how much the tech has moved beyond it.
Yes, I am looking forward to see how games have improved, and yes, I hopefully will have to upgrade parts of my computer for them. Then I'll be good for 5+ years again. And No, I will NOT buy a next generation console, considered a Wii=U, buy honestly, I'll probably just go with a cheap ass OUYO, and maybe check out the Steam Console, but probably not.
So no one's bothering to monitor pirated software, right? Asking for a friend.
the ISP are not monitoring it, the Movie and Music industry are not monitoring it.
The truth is, the software industry isn't relying on an business model that is close to 100 years old. They know some people pirate their software, but they don't go all bat shit crazy and spend billions lobbying about it. They just accept it as part of business and enjoy the money they are making.
Kids use whatever is the easiest thing out there. When Napster ruled, it was by far the easiest way to get a digital copy of a song. Now, if you want to get a song on your iDevice etc., it's a whole lot easier to wander into the iTunes store to buy it than the navigate the mess of illegal downloading. It's not so much a generational gap as a market response. Distributors are finally selling what people were willing to buy all along: a song for $1, if it's available immediately and is easy to get onto players. The full album length market has been gone for over ten years, but for a while there labels kept dreaming it would come back anyway, and priced accordingly. Now they're pricing to where people find it easier to buy than steal, so they buy. It was always about convenience.
I don't find the copywrong scene of music being so hard to download.
If you know what you want, it's a search away.
you always have choices, usenet, filelockers, p2p, irc, blogs, etc.
In fact, if I can't find your music online, for free, then the band isn't the slightest bit popular. (Noise Box, I'm looking at you!)
Ion not an astrophysicist, but... I did like the way they explained angular momentum. I think everyone sort of knows what a black hole is by now; who hasn't had an x-ray? and mass is just high school chemistry, if not junior high.
Netflix Instant Play monthly cost: less than $10, vs. IPREDator or equivalent VPN at about $5. Get a half decent Usenet or BitTorrent client, and the system has been circumvented.
I suspect that ISPs adopted these measures more to appease the content providers than to fight the actual problem.
Why won't the content providers address the obvious, and just make the content available through Netflix/iTunes/Amazon/VUDU/etc. soon after release? Such venues would enable them to profit from the home user who'd then download and pay without a hassle, and at the same time protect secondary international markets where other deals may be in place.
I guess these people learned nothing from Napster, iTunes, and music stores.
Cheers!

I thought the content owners either were ISP also, or they are buying up various big ISP.
Doctor Who, or Doctor Poop as I like to call it, is the worst piece of shit show that has ever hit the fucking airwaves. Figures as the British have never been very bright at anything to do with television. Fuck, even the worst trash that is aired in America is 1000s of times better than the piece of shit Doctor Poop, and that is the show they are known for. So big fucking deal that the creator of the oversized, mobile salt shaker characters is dead so I say good fucking riddance. Hopefully the piece of shit Doctor Poop will be eliminated along with that piece of shit network BBC America.
Please, let it all out. Tell us how you really feel!
I love Doctor Who and the series has entertained me for decades.
Always thought the Daleks had a great look, even if going up/down stairs was a problem. But thanks to the Daleks, I got Davros, and my namesake, Nyder.
Sony's real breakthrough with the PS4 might not be the specs, but its ability to turn every game you play into a multiplayer one.
This is not a breakthrough. They already did this with the PS3. Every time I turned the thing on I found myself stuck in a multiplayer game. When I wanted to stream Netflix videos, I'd spend 30-60 minutes in a tug of war between Sony, Netflix, Content Owners and Content Pirates... The Content Pirates would get an edge on Netflix, which would update its software to keep the Content Owners happy, but Sony would make the customers update over their network and lock up the machine for an hour once a week. That game got old so I stopped playing. When I wanted to use OtherOS, I found myself stuck in a multiplayer game between the hobbyists, Sony's marketing department, Sony's software developers, and Sony's legal team. Ultimately, that game got old too, so I stopped playing.
One would think Sony would learn from this, but even if one head of the Sony hydra learned, it couldn't focus on the concept for very long because the other heads are too busy snapping at it.
One of the reasons I don't get flu vaccine is because I expect the corporations to give you last years stock (which is no good for the current year) because it's cheaper then making new stuff.
The other reason I don't get flu vaccines is I don't catch the flu. Probably because I have NEVER gotten a vaccine to begin with.
Yeah, let's just sit around complacently and wait for the next 9/11.
You dumbass.
considering how much rights the people of the united states lost due to laws after 9/11, I don't think we could handle another one. They have no choice but to lock up everyone since taking away our rights wouldn't of worked.
9/11, we get attack by "terrorist" so we go invade a country that has nothing to do with it.
If we didn't keep building nukes, forcing other countries to keep building nukes to compete, then there wouldn't be so many nukes out there. Sure, we here in the USA might be able to keep our stuff out of other peoples hands, but we can't control Russia, China, UK, or France, and that's not talking about what Israel, India or Pakistan really have. Of course, North Korea is now maybe testing weapons.
Not to mention the USA policy of bullying other nations into doing what it wants? I think the problem is that the USA government knows that everyone is getting fed up with them and people are going to start doing something about it.
Utah is commonly associated with Mormonism, which is generally considered to have followers who are rather courteous and virtuous, if a bit annoying with their missionaries knocking on doors.
Hmm, most people i know consider Mormons to be batshit crazy.

The fact that the content industry has no problems with having the ISP industry monitoring their CUSTOMERS use of the Internet makes me sick.
...
The Content owners own the big ISP's.

Whether this is "good" or "evil", it will be interesting to see how the metrics of illegal file sharing change.
How many thousands of BT users decided not to launch their torrent client today?
What will US traffic in bittorrent do over the coming weeks and months?
Will NetFlix see an influx in business?
Will the number of leaches and seeders of pirated content decrease?
Take-away lesson? Buy NFLX and CMCSK...
Smart bittorrent users, like me, go thru a proxy.
They only thing that is gaining money from this, from me, is a VPN provider.
Actually in cricket, one out and you're out, so you have to go in. 10 outs and the side is out...
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in, goes out, and when he's out, he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When both sides have been in and out including the not-outs, that's the end of the game.
Wow, now I know Cricket sounds as boring as it looks!
Is there a difference?
Yeah! One's an amoral whore hired by you to effectively destroy a person's life. The other is the hit man.
This should be modded Insightful instead of Funny

Mass is chemistry? damn public school education.
If you've played any of EA's free games, you'll find they are almost all "Pay to Win".
Guess they'll be bringing that to pay games now.
I sort of agree with you, but to play devil's advocate... what if they were wrong?
They weren't. And really, nothing else matters.
You can bring in "but what if this happen" arguments, but they don't matter, because they didn't happen.

Doesn't everyone?

since it has a $125k price tag.
No one else is that stupid to pay that much.

"It's just paperwork, it doesn't matter"
So, a government functionary with a minor Napoleon complex who just wants to get on with the fun parts of the job then?
This is what happens when you give stupid people that much power.
This is what happens when you give anyone power without having balance and checks to keep them in line.
I'm down with an hour for breaks and an hour for lunch, but i don't understand the "talk" for 3 hours. What exactly do they "talk" about for 3 hours?
