Nintendo is the best game maker in the business. For all the talk about smartphones and Call of Duty and frames per second, my 2 year old daughter couldn't give a damn about the 360 or the PS3 or the Nexus 7 with her apps. She wants her Dora on her DSi. And though I'd love to play Kid Icarus Uprising and Mario Sticker Star, I just can't seem to pry my wife off of Professor Layton on the 3DS.
The 360 is where I meet my technically... ungifted family for game night because it's easy, not because I want to be there and not because they particularly want to be there. It's just.. easy.
The Nintendo ecosystem is where my family games. And the PC is where I game.
Steam + Nintendo = gaming bliss.
brb, finishing up 999 on the DS before my daughter gets home. 999? Just some amazing game you're missing.
The ones that forbid 90% of what the Federal Government is currently doing. It's quite simple actually and you might be up to the task.
Let's ignore the noise and skip to the signal.
Step Two: Locate and quote the section that authorizes the Federal Government to do any/all of the following:
Monetary incentives is long established law of the land. See NY v. US (1992, *not* 1946). Get used to it.
Step Two-B: Require children to attend government schools
Those are based on state law (your complaint, right?) *OR* are based on monetary incentive. A federal requirement would be unconstitutional, which is why there isn't one.
Step Two-C: Establish nationwide testing requirements
Let's all sing together now: Monetary incentive != requirements!
Step Three: When you fail all of the sub parts of Step Two, reread Amendments Nine and Ten of the US Constituition. Anything not explicitly allowed is forbidden.
I have a better idea. Why don't you come to grips with the fact that between the creation of the Constitution and now there are literally thousands if not tens of thousands of cases that have modified, tweaked, and otherwise made clear the supreme law of the land. Your cursory glance does not hundreds of years of case law make.
Thus the only valid question for your local congresscritter is that infamous line uttered by Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, "English Motherfucker; Do you speak it?"
And as soon as you leave the room, he and his aide will have a chuckle about the one born every minute.
What Constitutional issues? The ones you conjure up after a cursory glance and an internet rant don't count.
Seriously. I don't mean to be combative. I'm all ears.
What does this potentially mean for joe users like myself as far as interoperability with linux programs? Does this mean a platform that will be friendlier with syncing? Does it mean a competitive alternative to the WM phone OS?
I ask because I really don't know. Any insights on this one?
Bust out the rabbit ears. Seriously. My custom built year old mythtv box connected to HD rabbit ears has more than paid itself off.
Cut the cord entirely.
I am by no means an expert of any kind. In fact, I'm about as amateur as it gets. Before about a week ago, I had very little experience with linux (edgy, FC3 for about 5 mins). This is my quick take on the three:
KnoppMyth was way too over my head. I'm certain that it was my inability to grasp knoppix that was the problem. User problem to be sure, but if that counts as an issue... Knoppix did do great with lirc and my remote right out of the box, a sore spot for me with the other distros I used.
Whereas KnoppMyth felt like swimming in a ocean of misunderstanding, MythDora felt like death by a thousand cuts. It was pretty, but I kept feeling like I ran into hurdles over... and over.. and over. I used Jared's guide, but like all things, the book can only take you so far..
I ended up throwing Feisty on my HTPC and loading up a full backend/frontend/desktop. Biggest problems were my Avermedia A180 (DVB issues) and lirc. The level of user generated documentation with Ubuntu made the difference for me.
Feel free to disagree with me. I can't defend any of this with anything more than my personal experience.
I can't help but be overwhelmed by the terrific amount of stupid going on just down the street from my place. It's amazing. It's a rare story where you can root against everyone equally and perfectly.
Last time I checked, Microsoft had around $50 billion in cash. Yea, it's a heck of a problem to have, but the market looks unfavorably on a company with that much money. It means they don't have anything worthwhile in the pipeline. The inferences move from there. The Zune, Xbox, etc. are a response to that glut of cash.
It's one of those weird, twisted instances that the market works in a roundabout way. It almost forces them to "innovate", otherwise they have to cough it up in the form of a dividend. Now, I don't think that the Zune is a particularly good example of innovation, but the Xbox has been fantastic for the gaming console industry. It has pushed micro transactions light years ahead of where it would be otherwise with just Sony and Nintendo. Online gaming through live is the new console standard by which the others are measured. Would Nintendo have pushed the bar the way they have (and reaped the financial windfalls as a result) had the Xbox never seen light? Maybe.. maybe not.
I think at this point, profits outside their main revenue generators matter much less to MS than their ability to point at "innovation".
Obligatory Futurama quote: Fry: Because it grows the brand.
Absolutely. You want to pass obviously unconstitutional legislation? Your consitutents can pay the bills. After enough money down the tube, perhaps they'll think twice before electing you again.
This is a positively horrendous way to do business for yourself.
1. One bank account would mean that a lost/stolen card would effectively freeze you out of your only source of capital.
2. No credit cards = no credit. Pay a balance and don't cash advance.
3. This is the fastest way you will be bilked by businesses. A dollar here, a $10 spot there,...
4. Again, guessing is the worst possible thing you could suggest to other people, or do for that matter.
5. If you're spending more than 50% of your total assets (One account, right?), you either live at home or need to stop acting like you do.
6. Maybe the first decent idea, but even that one is debateable.
7. Budgeting should not be a rounded number. It should be exact. Always. Period.
You my friend, are every politician-hidden-tax, corporate-they'll-never-even-notice shyster wet dream.
I think big companies can continue past "critical mass" when the situation and personnel bring unusual drive and willingness to really grind together. You can compartmentalize each one and then a solid company leadership will bring it back into focus when the project is nearing completion. Microsoft as an entity is so large and their finished product so absolutely dependent on...dependencies, that it would take the second coming to put something like this together in the original time frame.
Crazy-time-line expectations are just a symptom of a lack of sound management. CYA time is a business murderer.
Short version: I agree.:)

I chose the GC platform because I wanted light, easy games. I'm not a big sports game fan and I prefer the mouse/keyboard combo for FPSs. I like the cartoony, easy to learn games that GC is master of. Mario Kart: DD blew me away. I was addicted after 5 minutes. Smash Bros is hilarious and a great playing fighting-styled game. They have a library full of the same kind of witty titles, and the Tony Hawk series was the must have IMO.
To the poster that bummed on the GC mod chip situation: It's the worst kept secret around. Like anything else, you just have to know what you're looking for. Welcome to teh intarweb.

Young'ins need to know the story of SUE EVERYONE doesn't begin or end with Apple.
deltree hasn't been in Windows since Win 98, grandpa.
Wow, it's like digg! I go down as a troll, and the populist gets the plug. You guys are the best.

I've been a candidate for mental evalution since before mental evalution was cool. ;D

Microsoft is screwed up.
Well thank god for the rest of us, they've also given you a pulpit from which to complain.
We can do this /. It's a team effort.
Better use of intelligence time? This should be taken damned seriously. Have a look at PROMIS and tell me this is a benign subject..
