  1. Re:This movie is bad on Hitchhiker's Guide Reviewed · · Score: 3, Interesting

I saw the movie this afternoon, and I can't understand your mindset. The mindset of anyone who'd post a negative review puzzles me. I've seen, heard, and read, the other versions of H2G2, and this new film was legitimately the best non-novel draft of that story. They MUST make sequels galore.

Luckily, the movie is very funny. That reviewer is simply wrong. I saw it this afternoon, and I couldn't stop laughing until ... well, I'm still laughing.

The movie provided mental illustration for people who don't like to think very hard while enjoying a good book or radio programme. For this reason, they MUST make four sequels.

Are you kidding? The whale hitting the ground in the distance, and the dust that looked like a mushroom cloud, was hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing! That was so good, and brilliantly executed (pun sorta intended)! The babel fish was cute! If the "God disappearing in a puff of logic" part weren't deleted, the movie might not have its G rating. And its G rating will introduce a new generation of kids to reading the books that we've so enjoyed!

  6. I love the movie! on Hitchhiker's Guide Reviewed · · Score: 5, Informative

The early eighties TV version is a great three-and-a-half hour videotape, the radio version is a great nine hours ... soon to be thirteen hours. The books are a great couple of weeks. The old DC comics version was apt. And the movie is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Having experienced the other versions, the new film was a welcome addition to the Douglas Adams canon, in my opinion. I loved the new episode with regards to the Church of the Arkelseisure, because that Perspective Gun was a wonderful literary tool which allowed screenwriter Douglas Adams to have his characters learn things which they otherwise would have learned through bulky dialogue. As for dialogue, the movie had a good mix of "novel dialogue" and "movie dialogue". "Novel dialogue" is bulky, wheras "movie dialogue" is short and to the point, and the film had a good mix indeed.

I've enjoyed the other versions, and so I found it very simple to enjoy the new version.

    They must make four sequels.

P.S. Bring a pair of "red and blue" 3D glasses. As the starship Heart of Gold arrives at the planet Magrathea, the crew is greeted by a holographic recording. That recording is only a minute long; however, it's in 3D. You need a pair of "red and blue" 3D glasses in order to properly enjoy that minute of film. This is not a spoiler; it's an enhancer.

  7. Don't Get Our Hopes Up, Slashdot! on 'Transformers' Live Action Movie from DreamWorks? · · Score: 1

The original animated TRANSFORMERS movie was one of the best animated films ever made. If they can surpass that scale in the story told, and do some complex battle sequences that make sense and have a point, this could be good.

I'm reminded of the story that got me interested in Slashdot in the first place. It was years ago, and I saw Slashdot on a friend's computer screen, and there was a story -- like this one -- about plans to make a live action DragonBall Z movie. Me -- still a huge fan of Dragonball Z -- my hopes were raised sky high, and I read the entire discussion, because I'd love a Dragonball Z movie -- especially if WWE's Shaun Michaels were somewhere in the cast.

Anyway, that story was much like this one, and my hopes were raised, but the Dragonball Z live action film was never made.

Slashdot -- you accepted this story about this Transformers movie, so I hope you're not just getting my hopes up again.

Another good live action movie would be about the Thundercats.

"Blending the quality and style of anime with Western storytelling, IGPX will be the first instance of a U.S. cable network working directly with a Japanese animation studio to create an original series."

I have a web-site that's trying to attract the attention of a North American network, and/or a Japanese animation studio, to accomplish that EXACT goal.

My web-site contains entire scripts for so-far 24 episodes of an original anime series concept called BANANA CHAN. The web-site is at:

    http://www.geocities.com/radiomovie2002/

BANANA CHAN is an epic mystery about a tightly-knit Japanese family who must come to terms with many secrets. It's got the extremes of comedy and drama, not to mention a very complicated, yet strange and easy-to-follow, uber-plot.

View my web-site, read the scripts, and learn how anyone can help get this series produced!

Maybe it's got something to do with the Toynbee Tiles! In case you're not "in the know", the Toynbee Tiles are a top-secret Masonic project in which the bodies of famous great thinkers are literally "seeded" at famous intersections througout North America, and their graves are marked with a puzzling message about Kubrick. JUST KIDDING! I actually have no clue who's behind the tiles, just as I have no clue what we're talking about? What code? Can I find it on a streetcorner? If so, I have to wait until daytime because there's a lot of prostitutes in my neighbourhood.
Well, since I'm gonna get bad karma anyway for this inappropriate comment, I might as well take this opportunity to plug the things I love: STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE and HOMESTAR RUNNER and BANANA CHAN and SEGA DREAMCAST. There. May the Karma gods spit on me.

In Japan new games are still released for Dreamcast every month. A lot of them are playable even if you don't speak Japanese. Some of the more recent releases that I'd recommend are: Border Down (2003), Psyvariar 2 (2004), Puyo Puyo Fever (2004), and Shikigami No Shiro 2 (2004). Dreamcast should resurrect in North America so that these great games, and others, can find the fans they deserve.

I like the new South Park episodes. I think the show has evolved, in many good ways, since its creation. A lot of people get attached to the "good old" episodes of a show, because those were the first episodes they saw, the episodes which made them fall in love with the show in the first place. I think that you're blind to see that new "classics" are being created all the time.

With even rudimentary knowledge of VXML, you can still get away with some awesome stuff on TellMe! I used to use it all the time until their free service stopped being offerred in Canada. You can still access it free in the states, and when Canadians dial the American eight-hundred number (1-800-555-tell), we get a recording that says: "Oh, I'm sorry, but we currently don't offer our services in Canada. But you can still access all of our services, by calling us long-distance at..." -- and then they say the area code, and the number. TellMe survived in ways that MyTalk crumbled. I'll bet TellMe will evolve eventually into way more than what MyTalk was. MyTalk, and many of the other services that people mentioned in this discussion, are good ideas, but they weren't planned perfectly, because they were way ahead of their times. I hope their times come soon...
