  1. Seriously now... on EC Watching Microsoft Security Moves · · Score: 1

Microsoft SHOULD include antivirus in the OS, they should have years ago.

Yes, it will make Norton, McAfee and the like totally irrelevant. Yes it will put Symantec folks out of a job _eventually_. But frankly I'd rather have an internet free of spambots, packet bots, and the like. These things should be in the OS, bundled with it, unremovable, and difficult to disable for the average user, who is likely going to be the one spreading virii unknowingly.

if i wanted to suffer through 1up.com, i would; but this is slashdot, it was once a great morning lunch and coffee break time killer in the office. now its just crap.

hey zonk, i just got back from tokyo game show with a special preview for you: in 2006 zonk sucks dick for nickles.

    venting complete :P cheers

the official fck website doesnt list fundable.org as a donation channel. I just see paypal and monkeybookers.
The idea of fundable.org is good, especially since paypal is so miserable to work with, but when dealing with large money transfers, I would expect to know what kind of financial backing they have, and how reputable they are. I dont see any of that information on the page.
I must say though, posting a donation link on the slashdot main page is a tad bit of advertising for my taste, even if the project is good (which it appears to be)

  8. I for one.. on Valve Games Still On Store Shelves · · Score: 2, Insightful

I know that personally (as a game collector) would not buy games online. Maybe if they were budget games, but anything serious I want a box and a disc that I can put on my shelf, and in 10 years replay! I cant forsee ganking a DVD-R with HalfLife3 out of the binder and having it work in 10 years, let alone finding it.
Ofcourse online distribution would (if done properly) allow a company like Valve to sell their games cheaper, and have more direct control on the content. If they did it right, it would be a mixed bag.

I agree with the parent but would like to add on.

I think that not only is the LSB concept flawed because they have picked some very POOR standards to comply to BUT they are also fundamentally going against linux tenants.

Linux distro creators shouldnt have to spend a great deal of MONEY to get a little sticker. We are angry when Microsoft does it, why should we be softer 'cause its Linux.

If the LSB project wants to be a nobel amalgamation of Linux on the desktop it shouldnt cost money to be certified, or a token sum for time used. (or volunteers! this is linux afterall, half the posters here would want to help certify apps)

Thats what alot of theyse bayesian analyzer attempt to do. They statistically learn your patterns by what emails you like and what you dont like, and then try to "intelligently" discard the bad ones for you. I mean obviously the worry exists (mostly for companies) that good email may get stopped, but in my experience its very uncommon, aslong as the user has taught the spam bot/blocker properly.

n64 was a crappy console, too high cost of development/production = too few games, first party games being the best for the most part, and while they were great games, there were too few.
as an owner of both psx and n64 at the time, i know where i spent the majority of my time.

i agree gc flopped because of poor quality sequels like mario kart, mario sunshine etc, but thats mostly a problem with their first party development. their other (bigger?) problem is they cant attract enough third party developers, which was why the (super) famicom were such big successes.
