If people got a letter in the post "from the bank" asking their personal details, bank details, pin number, and all the rest of it, most would ring the number to confirm it's real, or would contact the bank.
If it comes via email then yeah sure I'll fill this in, this is the Internet, what could possibly be dangerous about it.
I agree. Software can't teach you how to master the technique of touch typing. Software can only show you which fingers are supposed to hit which keys.
I'm 24 and can type 70wpm, I've only ever had practice, never used software.
I'd recommend typing of the dead too as someone said, challenges you to find the keys quickly.
An interesting idea but it wouldn't work, people on the internet can be anyone they want to be. To truly make sure would take a massive database of something unique about them
+ there will always, always be one hosting company that would pop up and charge over the odds to these bastards so they can get online.
Completely OT and I'm more than certain someone will flex their mighty moderating power to say so (and why bother with the good comments that need modding up when you can mod one down that makes no difference to anything) but..
According to my RSS feed, Zonk has put 16 stories up from 23:27 last night until 20:19 tonight, with the biggest gap being 3.5 hours! Does this guy never sleep? There's dedication and there's dedication....
no no, you missed the parent's point. So Mozilla knew about the bugs 10 days before telling everyone and it took another few days to fix. That's what? 15 days? MS know about bugs for months and months before even trying to patch them. Mozilla may not be perfect but at least they get things done and quick.
Exactly - the author of this "test" made a bad assumption: fsync() (or rather the windows equivalent) means it's on the disk.
The whole point though is the drive has absolutely no reason to cache the data. The OS caches for you, so you can use fsync() to say "make sure this is written" - I can see why that might be useful in many cases. If the drive is caching too, what's the point of fsync()ing anything.
Brad understands what fsync() actually does, but his point is it should match the real world needs, not just say "yeah it's written" when all it's done is moved from one bit of memory to another but not necessarily hit the disk.
Yeah it tried to give me the plugins too. I don't know if they succeeded because I took azu off and downloaded + installed the exe which seemed to have them included. (I did that cos azu couldn't connect to anything (though could read trackers), I later found out it was out of data java at fault, but didn't realise that at the time).
This isn't flamebait, it's a good point. xml files are cluttered with tags (I might add the tags are usually longer than the data they hold). Standard ini-style files are easily editable by notepad without hassle, and it would be very easy to design an editor for them if people wanted one.
I disagree, I get mod points fairly often but I'm either too busy on other things to really read/. or I'm just not interested in the stories. This means I might only use 2 or 3 of the points before they expire, so if someone wants something modded up, I can use one for that.
sure it creates clutter but thats what score 0 is for.
In line with my sig I would normally ignore an AC comment, but this one should be corrected.
You may notice that the original poster said I know it's physically capable of a BSOD, but really, has anyone ever seen XP or 2000 SP3 actually BSOD on a regular basis. My experience is that XP itself is incredibly stable. Infinitely more so than 95 or 98.
Note he said XP/2000 don't regularly bluescreen, he did not say they never bluescreen. Please learn to read more carefully.
You can hardly personally insult on someone based on their opinion of something. In reality, a lot of 2000 and XP systems are pretty stable, and certainly don't BSOD enough for it to be called "regular" which is the point he was making. Is everyone who holds such a valid opinion "an idiot"?
Because one of the funniest arguments was that the shuttle took off and just orbited for a few days. Ya think Russia, or any other country for that matter, wouldn't have noticed it going around every 90 mins for several days? Maybe America brainwashed the entire planet.
It is unfortunate that most of you people who believe we didn't go have watched some half arsed documentry (from Fox networks - I mean come on the clue is in the name) and taken it as gospel, and you've decided that no matter how much real science is thrown at you, you don't believe it. If you can't stay open minded during a debate, then that invalidates your opinion and crushes you credibility.
Because when it's minimized, windows doesn't have to care about keeping the graphical interface rendered, or tracking what text is displayed, or what font. It's all held in virtual memory (although if you use drive caching it's probably in there but it counts as caching). When you restore it, all of these are items are re-rendered back into memory.
Firstly, Exeem is ridden with adware and spyware. I can't speak for everyone out there, but to me, this does not exactly keep on in the spirit of Suprnova.
I disagree, suprnova became rather overrun with ads by the end, I would say eXeem keeps exactly in the spirit.
I got hold of the first and second series' and watched them straight through. Weren't there about 10 'rescue Archer' missions in those two? How dull Also, we were almost encouraged to notice the rest of the crew.. but then it went back to the old 'lets kill a crewman each episode', again dull.
While this may have worked for the earlier series', they might have at least made the effort to think of something new for this one.
You're right. It really isn't.

It's not child porn. It's certainly not appropriate but there's no porn there. Your point is valid though.

This comes from someone who doesn't even have the balls to sign in...
And being intelligent, thoughtful people they stick with the oh-so-safe IE. These are the type of people that think AOL is the best ISP ever.

Don't be stupid! They don't bother to read/correct the text the first time round, they're not gonna make an effort to do it later on.

I don't work for the company. I just like the software as its light, fast and no-install and it might be useful if you don't want to wait for acrobat.

Perhaps one day Slashdot will steal some of those editors and do that with submissions - well, it's a dream anyway

The last one reminds me of a very old joke about what if Star Trek's Data ran on MS: http://www.jestsandjokes.com/show.php3?joke=168

That's the last time they feed that buffalo some curry
