The AoE and the Pease book are great suggestions. Another good one is a recent copy of the "ARRL handbook". Intended for radio hams, it is a good general electronics reference, particularly for analog/RF work.
Lieberman and Sanders are quite different in their politics, though. Lieberman was probably the most conservative Democrat in the Senate, while Sanders is essentially a Socialist (well to the left of just about everyone else in Congress, with the exception of Dennis Kucinich).
I would expect to see the 2 Independent senators disagree on issues fairly often.
While the FM spectrum below 92 MHz is reserved for non-profit and community broadcasters (and relatively low-power transmitters), there is no requirement that non-profits are restricted to that part of the spectrum.
In the NYC market there is a non-profit station (WBAI) right in the middle of the dial at 99.5. They are running a 50kW transmitter from the top of the Empire State building, which makes for one of the strongest signals on the dial...

The government has access to all of these and many more toys, as well as the ability to declare martial law, so a bunch of people with deer rifles don't exactly pose a serious threat to their power.

Except that a Heathkit of any decent complexity took a helluva lot more than 8 hours to assemble. Man I wish those were still around. Spent many an hour putting together dozens of those kits, INCLUDING a robot.

Such abilities are dangerous to existing power structures, be they governmental or religious.
Until a law is passed preventing such modifications. Because the recorder functions will most likely be part of the engine control computer, the lawmakers will use concern over tailpipe emissions or something similar to outlaw modified firmware.
Pacifism does NOT equate to doing NOTHING in the face of a violent threat. It only rules out a VIOLENT response.
All manner of creative, non-violent responses are possible. Civil disobedience, monkeywrenching, culture jamming, etc.
While you may want to debate the efficacy of a pacifist response to violence, you at least need to understand that pacifism is not equivalent to surrender. Lots of thought-provoking info at:

When you are cutting a piece in a milling machine, it is generally either held in a vise or clamped down to the table. Your hands are well away from the rotating cutter when you are cranking the handles or engaging the powerfeed to make the cut. The biggest hazard would be flying chips or raking your hand across the cutter while breaking down a setup.
With a table saw, you are pushing the material by hand toward the blade, and one slip can be disastrous. If the stock gets cocked between the rip fence and the blade, it kicks back toward you violently. Cutter speeds tend to be a LOT faster for cutting wood, as well, and will do a lot more damage a lot faster.
But in this case, the neighbor's faucet/WAP is spraying water/an RF datastream over the property line. Is it wrong to rig up a big funnel/catch basin and use the water that your neighbor was spraying uninvited onto your property?
Perhaps more people would come out and vote for more liberal drug laws through local ballot initiatives if they actually thought that the new laws would actually be implemented?
As it currently stands, municipalities (like Denver) or entire states (like California) can vote to liberalize their marijuana laws, and it doesn't make a bit of difference, because the feds just storm in and override the local laws, arresting grandmothers with glaucoma, and AIDS/cancer patients who use medical marijuana.
Funny how these conservative a$$holes are all for "State's Rights" until it comes to the drug laws, where a federal "Nanny State" is just fine by them...
but the GOP seems to have a closer relationship with the energy and military contractors, while the Dems seem to prefer the media conglomerates and telecom giants.
The Democrats have a history of silencing voices within the party who have the nerve to push for real change or accountability. The party would never allow their presidential nomination to go to anyone who was pushing for an indictment of Bush or his cronies. Radical or even strongly progressive voices within the party are either ignored completely (see Dennis Kucinich), or they seem to end up in mysterious plane crashes like Paul Wellstone.
The Dems and Reps are BOTH beholden to corporate interests and Wall St. bankers. Choosing which of the 2 major parties to vote for is simply choosing WHICH set of corporate swine you want pulling the strings in DC.
Underground powerlines would suffer higher capacitive losses than overhead lines, and losses between the generating plant and the user would be power that the utility company can't (directly) bill for.
With all the public concern about EMF exposure, the situation would be made much worse when all those distribution transformers move from 40' up a pole to concrete pads at ground level. And then there is the everpresent problem of "backhoe fade"...
Their readership would be mostly EE's and other technical types, I would think. Which makes the comparison between a cellphone's RF output and a processor clock even more ridiculous.
