I'm still not sure what Web 2.0 is (other then some js,xml,ajax,etc..), but at least it lets me listen to a aussie chick complain about petrol and an id.
My initial reaction to this posting was "Wow, why did they not release it for the PC? I would love to have OS X as the OS for my box, including other PC users. What are they thinking?"
Then emotions settled down, and I realized that Macs/OS X is the way they are, because of Apple's thinking. When you have a hardware and configuration that are somewhat common, you lower the chance of having problems.
If it was released to the masses of PC users and a ton of problems began popping up (as they most likely would). The rumors of "Apple isn't as solid as they say", etc, etc. And could really hurt Apple.
Then the company would be forced to release patch, after patch to accommodate for various hardware. This could then lead to creating a bloated OS and inviting virus writers to focus on OS X as much as they do with Windows.
You misread my post, I said the France suffered the most in WWI (World War I). Your right about WWII, the Jews and Russians suffered the most in that conflict.
The Dutch did give us huge funding at the time, but they were not able to help us with military support.
Most if not all of that came from France.
I did some more looking into Holland's connection with the US at the time. They really stuck their neck out for us, as doing so caused them to become a bitter enemy of England.
Really what I was trying to get at, is that without the help of a lot of countries around the world, the U.S. wouldn't be here now. It pisses me off when a lot of American's act as if these countries owe us. It's pretty much equal these days.
France suffered more than any other country in WWI, most of the war took place in France. They did not want anymore death and destruction. Millions of citizens had lost parts or all of their families to Germany in the first world war. So they had the choice of losing more the second time around, or surrender. They did try to defend Paris, but enough was enough.
I know Americans like to joke all the time about the French surrendering, but America has never had to fight a huge conflict (refering to modern conflicts) on it's own soil. Having a foreign military rip through it's cities and countryside.
Tsk, tsk. America wouldn't even be here without France. They financed America's Revolutionary War for independence and saved us at the last hour in the War of 1812.
I help a guy who owns a car wash. One or twice a month I'll help him install a new hard drive or do some work on his webpage for his business, and he'll give me a couple high-end tickets for his car wash.
All of the research, work, ideas, etc, etc.. gained by trying to go to Mars would be worth it though. Let's say we didn't make it at all, the ship got half way there and we had to turn around, or god forbid lives were lost.
So it was a failure, but at the same time it would be a win for us. Think of all the knowledge we would gain, and possible discoveries. Maybe we would find a way of easily going to the moon and back, a new fuel type, and so on.
When you are pushed beyond known limits, you may not reach the goal, but you learn a lot of new things trying to get there. It's like they always say, it's not about the destination, but the journey.
I don't believe we will be truly successful at space travel until the private sector picks it up a lot more. Once that begins, the sky or in this case, space is the limit.
Our company has been eagerly waiting for this merger. We completed a merger ourselves, last year.
It gave us the benefit of having both Oracle and PeopleSoft experts/consultants.
How many people work in a shop, that primarily uses Oracle? We use Oracle for the database, JDeveloper for the IDE (working on getting us to switch to Eclipse), Oracle Forms and now Oracle Portal.
I'm in charge of getting our Java environment up and running and moving us from PHP web application development, to Java. PHP may still be used for smaller applications, but Java will take over for the larger projects we now have coming in.
A few people want to use JDeveloper for the IDE, Oracle App Server for the Java server, and ADF for the architecture, and then of course Oracle for the db. Which I'm in total disagreement with, as it's putting to many of our eggs in one basket.
I'm fine with Oracle as our database (we also use postgreSQL). And can live with using JDeveloper for our IDE. (as I said, trying to get Eclipse). But I would much rather use JBoss or Tomcat for the app server and no way am I using ADF for the architecture. Spring Framework, all the way.:)
I'm so f'ing tired of hearing people whine like this when someone patents something. It's not like they are patenting "the process of opening a door with a turning motion of a door knob" it's an actual novel idea.
This is perfect for a patent. What are they suppose to do, not patent, release freely. And then Big Corp ABC comes along and sweeps the market with it's own? And the people who developed in the first place, get left behind.
I agree, I hated the Xen level in HL1 and the whole "Boss" concept, as if it was a platform game. The ending in FPSs (especialy the likes of HL) should be more strategy/puzzle based then some super villian.
Don't get me wrong, I loved HL2. But I was very disappointed by the lack of enemies. Only two types of commandos? And why couldn't you drive their tank like veichles?
It's hard to say.. I put FarCry on equal grounds with HL2. What kills FarCry are the last levels where you are fighting mutant monsters, I hated that. You go from having these awesome fire fights with Mercs, to fighting mindless monsters. Really killed the impact of the game for me.
Nice work on the image, thanks for the link.
I'm afraid I have to agree. Have you tried watching the History Channel in the last couple days? Ugh... Da Vinci non-stop.
I can understand Ad boxes and Pop-ups. But Spinners and Tabs are a nice benefit
Is pulling from www.oswd.org ruled out? :-)

The poster must of never drank at a frat party, bar, etc. If a person wants to get drunk, they are going to get drunk.
No respectful frat is going to have this, fun and responsibility do not go together.
If a party did have one of these, and the machine started cutting people off, it would be trashed in no time.

Did anyone notice Jerry Bruckheimer in the area with a pick axe?

Exactly, thank you Kenja. I've always thought the same thing.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. :) "Quiz Show" was on HBO just other night, and made me think of all this.

Have you ever looked at the Spring Framework? If you like Struts, you'd fall in love with Spring.
