...ever bothered to visit even a small science museum?
Because this type of device, using IR beam sensors, reflective IR sensors, or even frickin' visible laser beams (sorry, no sharks though) is in use in probably half the science museums around the world.
Neat hack? Sure. Original? Not in the slightest. I can say that one from personal experience, having designed and built several that are currently in use in museums here in the US.
...how idiotic comments like this one are inevitably posted by ACs?
If you're so enthralled with your a:humor, b:vitriol, c:idiotic childish babbling, d:quoting of Fox News (I'm sorry, c: and d: are pretty much the same thing), why not post it under your own name so everyone can see who you are?
Yes, of course. And any company that makes one that doesn't play OGG is going to fail miserably in the marketplace.
Except, of course, for all of the ones that don't and haven't. Because the average consumer (as opposed to the average Slashdotter) doesn't care if their music is OGG, MP3, WMA, CD, or cassette. They want to be able to access it and listen to it when they want. All the other questions pale in significance by comparison.

...are there ANY real hackers out there?
And no, I'm not talking about 1337 case modders or overclockers. I'm talking about real hackers like this one. Doing hardware and software hacks that are done just for the sheer joy of doing them, and can be done because they CAN.
Mod me down as flamebait if you will. This is something very cool. Who the hell cares if it's practical. Neither is a machine that can turn ordinary dog biscuits into india ink. But the hack value is enormous.
(tip o' the pin to Bill Griffith... thanks, Griffy!)
I've been invited to join MENSA. I've also gone to a few of their meetings. Essentially what they were were a number of individuals of dubious accomplishment and substantially lacking in social skills attempting to one-up each other and show how they were smarter than anyone else in the room. What a bunch of WOMBATs.

And no, I'm not passing on the idiot slashdot meme. The Soviet Union had one of the largest standing armies in the world AND a disarmed citizenry. When the population became completely fed up, none of that mattered any more; the government fell like a house of cards regardless. The same thing will happen in China and/or the US when the dissention reaches critical mass. As long as enough people have bread and circuses, however, they're willing to overlook little things like other people's rights.
For the same reasons that DOS is still used in so many embedded applications. Such as it's much easier to hack hardware when you can bang on the bare metal without dealing with hardware abstraction layers and the like. The right tool for the job and all that.
Is anyone really surprised?
Remember, this is a network that managed to kill off one of the funniest shows ever made, i.e. Dilbert, by running it on the same night as WWF and "Filthy McNasty's" or something similarly idiotic.
Comments about the show's quality aside... this is UPN. Their programming geniuses could fuck up a wet dream.
...and I really don't give a flying rat's ass if you're unhappy about it or not. Do you really think there are any things such as trade secrets or unshared knowledge? Welcome to the real world.
I saw that commercial too, the last time I went to the movies. And like someone else on here said earlier, I was wondering "WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU TELLING ME THIS WHEN I"M ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO"S ACTUALLY PAYING TO SEE YOUR CRAPPY MOVIE?"
If you can't see the value of a free, open source OS that will run the abundance of Windows executables, then I guess there's nothing more that needs to be said.
With aerodynamics contributing a claimed 75% of the performance of the current bread of cars
OK, ignoring the whole bread != breed thing... so if I remove the engines they will still go 75% of top speed?
Of course, there are plenty of Slashdotters ready to point out the few linguistic flaws of the non-native English speaker, while missing or ignoring his point entirely.
When you can make your point in linguistically and gramatically perfect Portugese to rebut the original poster, great. Until then kindly quit contributing to the static.
... when one actually READS TFA, one finds that a few people seem to be having this problem, and a great many more don't. And that it could be Sprint's crappy service in the first place.

You would want Britney Spears' new single?

Are you kidding? Most of the crap that's released on CD now I can't even sit through once.

Insightful? hardly. Clueless flamebait? More to the point.

require the exact same level of proof as any other verifiable fact. Regardless of what The Annoying Randi (tm) might claim.

WTF does Sony have to do with this?
