Its not too hard to add up $$$'s. I'm getting extra controllers, the classic controller, component cables, and a big stack of games.
My point from above though is that there is market demand at $700 for just the console alone. A store (with limited supply) wanting to target those customers who will spend that amount of cash isn't "mind boggling".
Didn't Fry's have a similar bundle at $650 that quickly sold out?
I'm spending more than that on the launch of the Wii and I'm not buying a bundle. Check out the going prices for the Wii pre-orders that have sold on Ebay, prices there for the console alone reach $700.
My mom (late 50's) flew on Japan airlines this summer when trhey were advertising Brain Training. Once back here in the states, she went out on her own and bought a DS and the game. Not only that, she drove around to 3 stores before she found any systems in stock.
And this from a woman who had to put up with her son being obsessed with the NES back in the day. They last person who I would ever expect to buy a Nintendo on her own.
On another note, I mentioned to her the cook book and DS browser and she was definitely interested in those. NoA needs to get serious about the older gamer and start targeting them. I've seen their demo stations with Brain Training running, but naturally they are mounted 3 feet off the floor and located in the video game section. ToyRus has giant signs advertising the game - but thats the problem -- its at ToyRUs. The last place any self respecting older adult is going to be shopping for themselves.
Why they don't have Brain Training for sale at Borders, Sharper Image, etc is beyond me. It will never appeal to older people as long as its relegated to the kids section.
Thats about exatly as I picture game demo kiosks. I'm surprised that anyone doesn't picture them exactly the same way...
I see demo kiosks at 2 places: WalMart and Target. Both (when they're working and turned on) usually have nasty, crusty controllers and are surrounded by 10-year old twerps. The majority of the time they just aren't turned on (which I assume means they're broken)
(yes, I am aware that EBGames has kiosks. Those usualy aren't as crusty, however the 16 year old twerps that surround those are even more annoying)
I have never played a game demo for a console game. I've seen a few floating aroudn the the PS2, but none for any games I'm interested in. I usually rely on multiple online reviews and/or message boards.
For the PC.. sure I try out "demos". My good friend 'oosenet-ay' helps me out there. I've found that most commercially release PC games are in fact demos - in that the full functionality won't come out until 2 or 3 patches have been released and you can finally play the game without bugs.
Couple of points. WHat gives you the idea that the Daily Show isn't "corporate". You think they pool their money every week to rent out a studio in order to make the show? Maybe a bake sale in order to release a new Dave Chappele DVD?
and two, you seem to equate freedom as the government forcing you to say something? How is that logical???
I quickly tired of the Daily Show once it became a string of bush bashing 'jokes', over and over and over again. The same has happened with the Onion as well - after their move to New York the comedy there has gone downhill.
Texas is most definitely not in the "South" If anything, Texas' culture is distinctly southwest, however if you ask any true Texan, they'll just tell you that Texas is in 'Texas'.
The Action Set wasn't available at the initial launch. There was the Deluxe set and thhen just the "Control Deck" - a console only version. Super Mario Bros. was available as a seperately boxed cartridge.
"The biggest problem for the Wii (aside from the controller) is that lower performance, lower memory, lower resolution etc. will mean that titles from the 360 or PS3 cannot be ported without substantial changes"
What you see as a problem, I see as a bonus. The further EA and similar craptastic titles stay away, the more I'll enjoy the Wii.
DVDs were relased back in 1997, so while I guess '99 is close to that its still nothing to brag about. IIRC, DVDs were the fastest accepted new technology at the time making your 2 years later claim even a little more weak.
But anyway, I'm not on the HD-DVD bandwagon either and I am exactly their target audience. For me, its the fear of DRM. (iTunes is too DRM'd out for me to use as well)
Yes, sorry my mistake. Thats exactly the album I was thinking of but was typing too quickly. Pink Floyds "The Wall" and Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" would also fit as well
My mom went out and bought a DS (for Brain Training).
Ans she didn't just go out and buy it.. she had to visit 3 different stores before she found one in stock. My mom used to berate me for playing the "nintendo" too much back in the day, and I never thought I'd see the day she would want her own.
As peple have been pouring through recent Reuters photographs, a number of other discrepencies have arisen:
Here's one http://drinkingfromhome.blogspot.com/2006/08/extre me-makeover-beirut-edition.html from Drinking From Home.
2 separate photographers sent in captioned photographs of a woman who's house "had just been destroyed". The only problem is, it the same woman and same house but the claimed airstrikes were 2 weeks apart.
Same here, I guess I am out of touch.
I haven't bothered to tuneprogram the radio in my car (that I bought 5 years ago) and that tends to be where I hear "popular" music.
I do however listen to a lot of music though....

Its a big purchase, yes. But its not a rip-off.
I dont have any mod points today, but if I did you'd have them.
I'm with anonymous.
This ignorant spewing of negative fears and hate mongering is really getting old. Please go away or grow up.

If you play an 8-track on the nicest stereo system in the world, its still going to sound like "shite"

man, if the above is too much for someone to do to attract a girl, then theres just not much hope for them.
Thats the kind of person my grandmother would look at and say "Well, bless his heart"....

Its a shame I guess....
Verizon blocks port 80?
and to think I was getting excited here.....

Did we hear this two years ago when the DS made its debut?

How about "chapter" and "volume" then?
If you think you can listen to Magical Mystery Tour on random play, then you're missing half the point of the work.

Its not bias in this case. its deception.
Theres a huge difference.

Theres no way I'm going to move to a primarly online based subscription service.
Are you then claiming that pressing the A button somehow better emulates the swing of a sword and stricking of an object?
