I can appreciate your concern, since the recent history with Skype and some other acquisitions left a bit of a bad taste, but this article from ArsTechnica suggests that Microsoft might have been the best option:

    https://arstechnica.com/gadget...

The Microsoft of today is not the same Microsoft as in the days of Ballmer and Gates. While Microsoft certainly has as big focus on the corporate world, its open source portfolio is bigger by the day. In many ways pigs are flying.

Are you not aware that Microsoft is still currently "licensing" software patents on devices distributed with the Linux kernel?

Yes... It goes like this... You build a new device and start distributing it with the Linux kernel installed.
Microsoft approaches you and says your device violates 200+ Microsoft software patents because it runs Linux.
You now have to pay Microsoft money for a software patent license for every device you distribute because you are building and distributing devices that include the Linux kernel which they say violates their software patents.

It's a very sleazy extortion scheme designed to stifle Linux and open source in the marketplace.

that's all nice and dandy but apparently you seem oblivious to the software patent extortion scheme that Microsoft has been running against Linux for nearly a decade now. There are numerous examples of Microsoft threatening companies and forcing them to pay for "Linux Patents" Do your self a favor do a quick google search...even better yet just do a little research in the matter.

The reason why we offer military protection to some countries such as Japan and Germany is because we don't wan't them to develop an advanced military that can compete with ours. It's one of the ways we guarantee that we have the best military in the world. On top of that we don't need competition from countries like Japan and Germany developing and selling advanced arms thereby competing with us in that marketplace. We already have enough competition from the British and French in that space and now Israel is starting to enter that space more aggressively. They buy their arms from us == we profit. So be careful what you ask for and understand the reasons why things are the way they are before you start calling to change the status quo, and know the repercussions of what you are asking for.

  19. Hopefully you are not that fucking stupid. It is your POLITICIANS that ordered the NSA to do what ever it is you think they are doing. The NSA didn't just get a wild hair up their ass and decided to so-called spy on you. This all started with Republicans in the Bush administration that ordered the NSA to do this illegally. This was revealed when an AT&T employee busted the operation in AT&T's room 614a with the Narus 6400 and the fiber taps. After this came to light the majority of Republicans and the Republican president George W bush aided by a minority of Democrats came out with the PATRIOT Act making it legal to do this shit. Either you wake the fuck up and stop blaming the NSA for following orders of your politicians and blame the politicians and vote them the fuck out or shut your fucking trap. Christ.
