Exactly how I felt. I read a summary that says "such and such is 10x stronger!!1". I ask stronger than what and how? (We got the what, but not the how.) So, I'm thinking, "If I read this article, is it going to be an advert piece with no details? I'm not going to waste my time to find out."
In fact, the last remaining market where open source ISN'T already dominating (or at least mainstream) is the desktop.
And even on the desktop, tools like the GIMP, LibreOffice (OO.o), and Firefox are starting to dominate. (Just not Linux, yet - needs more/better driver support.)
I love the floating toolbars the GIMP offers me. (I have 2 monitors). I just wish my video editing software didn't try to cram everything onto one window. It makes for a small preview window, tools menus, and limited timeline bar. If I had my choice, I would have the ability to switch my preview video and the timeline bar to the main screen as needed.
What do you do when you need your mouse out of the way? I usually select the window I want and then flick the mouse pointer away... which then moves the mouse to another area of the screen and potentially onto another window. Like you said, it's not for everyone. I did try it, though, and found it an odd curiosity.
The focus issue on Windows is really annoying. When a picture loads, the picture, toolbox and layers/channels/paths windows all load behind other windows and leaving the focused window in a weird state. I click on the header bar of the GIMP window and it becomes selected but remains behind all other windows. I have to then focus on another window then back to the GIMP window to make it work correctly.
Now, I like GIMP because of the breakout toolboxes. I put those toolboxes on the second monitor and use the first for the full image.
The question is if you are taking so many precautions, how long until those combination of precautions trigger a flag somewhere? The idea being "He appears to be hiding something so he *must* be hiding something." (Of course that falls apart when people, en mass, do the same things - such as including a footer in email with all the FBI trigger words - of which I don't do, but have heard about.)
Yeah, I got the Orange Box set for $30. That included a heck ton of games including Ep 1 and Portal. It turned out Portal was as much a great game as Ep1 was. Plus the back catalog of games that came with it (HL1 and HL2, I believe).
Considering it took them 6 years to release Half Life 2, having it take 2 years a piece for HL2:Ep1 and HL2:Ep2 does not seem like that big of a deal to me. They certainly left a huge cliff hanger for HL3... and we haven't even got any teasers (unless you call Portal a teaser, and the inclusion of Aperture Science in HL2:Ep2). It is getting a little long in the tooth for HL2:Ep3 to come out. I'm really going to have to replay HL2 and the episodes when Ep3 comes out (or, I guess, I could just read the wikia.)
The best part about a 2 year old game is that if there is a tricky part you just can't get around, there have been enough creative people to show you exactly how to get around it - with video.
(A couple of my Portal videos on Youtube have gotten a few recent comments. I find that a little strange. Has there been a recent upsurge in advertising; or, perhaps, pre-orders for Portal 2 is coming with a license for Portal?)
In the absence of choice, I remain abstinent. Seriously, though, I just don't use ebay. If I find something I like that happens to be at ebay, I do background research on the seller, find their online store and purchase from there. All my computer equipment comes from Newegg. Just about everything else comes from Amazon. I recently purchased a metal detector from KellyCo, their ebay name is/was Aardvark. I had to buy a replacement converter brick for my Dell laptop, I discovered the seller on ebay had a B&M in my town (odd), so I dropped into the store and picked it up. I don't always get the rock-bottom prices, but I usually end up with free shipping and a serviceable warranty. If I sell, I put it on Craigslist. If it is particularly valuable, I don't mind traveling to nearby cities. The last item(s) I sold on ebay were sniped by some guy. He paid, I shipped, he claimed his account was hacked. My items were unrecoverable after the sale (WoW time cards if you must know), so I was out $300.
Maybe. Have you read "The Scarlet Letter"? The guy has paid / is paying for his crime. Currently, he enjoys the rights of a Citizen of the USA (with some limitations on living location). Allowing Barney to search his stuff without suspicion or warrant is un-Constitutional, no matter if he was convicted of a crime (which he has paid for the crime) or of some ethnic or religious class.
They came for {group} and I did not speak out, because I was not a {group}, then they came for me and there was no one to speak out for me. (adapted from Martin Niemöller)
Anyway, this all boils down to business people having to carry throw-away laptops with encryption. But re-imaging after arriving on site and then before leaving the site. This, of course, necessitates carrying the data/image in a portable device. USB keys are plenty large now-a-days - and can be shipped fairly discretely if necessary.
//who knew reading books like The Scarlet Letter and Animal Farm in high school would be so beneficial! Catcher in the Rye was stupid. Lord of the Flies was thought provoking, but I disagreed with the author's point-of-view. I need to read 1984 because of how relevant it is and, perhaps, Atlas Shrugged just to see what the hype is all about.
Even though those ads might be targeted towards my general location, it is still a bunch of ads I don't click on. Seriously, the phone turns off its display, I listen to the music, I don't watch the phone. I don't even mind the advertising that comes on between music, because it's not that often and I realize they have to pay for their service somehow.
It is getting a little annoying though. I thought I would be safe from those highly annoying Kia radio spots while listening to streaming music. I found out I was sadly mistaken the other day. (/me avoids ranting on Kia - never owned one, never will.)
Well, sure. But the Wii, and other consoles, have turned into a nifty "entertainment" unit with the addition of Netflix. It's a bummer that my Wii won't play the Netflix movies at a higher definition than 480p. I won't be getting an XBox (why pay twice for my internet service) and I won't be getting a Playstation (too expensive, no need for Blu-Ray, it's Sony).
I received two this morning. Best Buy and Robert Half. I'm sure there will be more coming. And I wonder what the impact will be. Really, the spam blocker hardware and software technology really do a decent job of reducing the trash.

The netbook makers had the IBM thought process: we're a hardware company. The field was wide open for Asus, Acer, Palm*, RIM, anybody, to grab Linux, create attractive UIs, tools, and software and create an iPad like tablet. Heck, they could have hired out Canonical (or whomever) to do the software bit for them.
* Of course, Palm just didn't get it. They failed to capture the market recently and treated their developers and fans badly (shutting down blogs, etc).
* RIM might also be seeing writing on the wall. I have confidence they may pull it through.
I'm not sure what Roger's policy is, but the local cable company in my town states that the residential service is for "entertainment purposes only". Any business related activities are not going to be guaranteed for full service up-time. (i.e. don't expect to run a 24-7 webserver out of your home.)
Given that entertainment only policy, if Rogers has it, they can't have it both ways. WoW is not the only games company using bt like technologies. Sure, there are some illegitimate uses, but I grab all my linux updates using bt. I grab LibreOffice using bt. I think Steam uses bt.

In regards to the resume, I would hope the contributing editor would use The Gnu Image Manipulation Program on their resume.
Even still, why not fork the project with a different name. Every time a new release build is released, fork it, rename it, rinse-repeat

How recent is this change, is it a cut-scene change? I played it through last year when they announced Portal 2 and went for the eggs they left behind
