Plan9 has some really cool ideas, the more Unix than Unix everything-as-a-file paradigm, the network transparent file system, directory merging, the list goes on and on.

But I just can't get past the mouse-intensive UI. I absolutely hate it.

Mutt does this. And it's MIME compliant, so any non-text attachments can be opened by the associated program in your mailcap file. Mine is set up to open HTML in mozilla (if I'm running X) or lynx, and open images with display (ImageMagick). You can associate a program for every MIME type...

You don't know the difference between patent and copyright, do you?

Microsoft would make just as much money if the patent system was done away with... it would be just as illegal to copy Windows under copyright law, and, with the closed source code, it would be just as hard to reverse engineer.

Patents have little to do with open-source vs. closed-source, the majority of closed-source software is unpatented.

Did you even read the article? It's about someone intentionally changing his email headers (while still conforming to published standards) so that Outlook users cannot read it due to a horrible bug in Outlook. He has no problem reading Outlook mail with his mail client, and no clients (besides Outlook and Outlook Express) have any trouble reading his email.

This is not the default behavior of any email client... he intentionally changed his headers. So basically you are ranting about a figment of your own imagination.
