I do use it for the sake of practicality, but I also have fun with it. Personally, I think the "everything is a file", "programs should be lightweight filters that do one thing and do it well", and "use plain text whenever possible" paradigms work very well.
I will, however, admit that C sucks (compared to the Lisp dialects especially) and I would love to have a system such as the one outlined by the TUNES project.

It's like shouting "Ferraris are better" at a VW Beetle fan club convention. Sure it's an air-cooled piece of crap that goes faster uphill if you push it... but it gets us where we're going and we can take it apart and put it back together all by ourselves with a basic toolkit.
We just glance up and mutter, "What an asshole," and then get back to work.
Try disabling gpm if you have it running... some xservers / video cards freak out over gpm.
Netscape is generally pretty stable for me, but I have javascript and java disabled (I still haven't found a reason to turn them back on). Sometimes it will run away with the cpu and peg it at 95% when it does crash or something else crashes X (eznet suid root is the only thing that crashes X for me... try an 'eznet down' while the phone is still ringing after you launched 'eznet up' from a window manager's menu). I just send it a KILL signal and it dies.
Perhaps you should enable user limits on memory and cpu time? Sounds like Netscape just ate all your resources and won't give them back.
Actually, as the owner of the original copyright, the author has a right to rerelease that same code under any license he wishes. Providing, of course, that the original code does not contain anyone else's GPL'd code.

I see us becoming more of a utopian society where all there is for people to do is engage in activities that humans will most likely always be highly suited for, like artistic endeavors of all kinds, fun stuff like windsurfing and football, and generally goofing off and having a good time.
