Stallone is an accomplished script writer and a damned good businessman. Take a look at the deal he struck when he wrote and sold Rocky to the studio (he basically retained the rights to future sequels). Stallone has been able to fly under the radar because he sounds uneducated when he talks (due to an injury sustained at birth, if I remember correctly).
Anyone who has ever needed this capability already knew how to do it. The article will undoubtedly lead to many "normal" users trying it out and inevitably deciding it is a waste of time. The majority of proxy servers are as slow as molasses since the adult site crackers are running all their scripts through them. You have to be pretty dedicated to actually use these servers on a regular basis.
I'm all for giving poor and developing nations access to this kind of technology but the fact remains that there are more pressing needs for these folks.
Perhaps they'll prove me wrong and these laptops will help these people improve their living conditions but I'm not holding my breath.
Should be interesting to see just why MS is stepping into this fight. Do they simply want to challenge their competitor's patents for personal gain or do they genuinely want to encourage innovation? Given that their own patents will also be placed under the same scrutiny, it is hard to imagine how they would stand to gain more than anyone else in this situation.
This guy wasn't fired because he was smart. He was fired because the company knew that they had shortchanged him and they didn't want him hanging around to hassle them about it. He was exploited and, when he demanded fair compensation, he was shown the door.
Slashdotters are opposed to monopolies but they want Apple to have a monopoly in the mp3 player market.

b) Ok, so they force people to "scroll down" before seeing the image. What about people that have large monitors and email fullscreen? Do we have a set number of 100000000 lines before you see it?
The people who are surfing the web on their Jumbotron will just have to grin and bear it, I guess.
Never again will I let anyone argue to me that baseball isn't an embarrassingly boring sport. Can you imagine football fans choosing to go online rather than watch the game?
Well, maybe Arizona fans....
It offered Newports -- his brand -- for $2.85 a pack, about a third of what he pays at a corner store near his home. He saved the message for later consideration.
The only product they mentioned that he actually uses and he didn't buy them? What a doorknob.
I also get the feeling that Dell is your typical entrepreneur in that as soon as he builds one successful business, he's ready to build another. People like that never retire.
Woohoo woo hoo hoo!

Well, the wife never complained when she found I was part horse.
How will the RIAA remove her from the public eye? Or will they just make her an offer she can't refuse and bring her to the dark side?
As a musician, I hope her win is a precedent that will be emulated over and over.
