That's pretty funny in its irony! Heh, reminds of a prof that i have. He and a few buddies decided to start a company after they graduated back in the day. Times got rough and he figured "screw this, i'm getting a real job".
Turns out, his buddies - they made a fucking mint a few years later. He tells each class this story....i've heard it a few times b/c of taking several of his classes.
But hey, he's a tenured prof now and just traded his wife in on a newer model 1/2 the age of the wife!
i will game only on the desktop.

There are going to be government cuts once this current trend has run into a wall and the budget is getting put back in line. Now you tell me which agencies stand a better chance of survival, the new ones or the old ones? That is what i'm stating: be careful to whom you give authority at this time. It is an election year...this are going to change no matter who is voted in.
Anyway, i feel this is a dangerous move to let give that power to the DHS. After this trend of cut-taxes, spend-like-there's-no-tomorrow, and create more, new government agencies peaks and begins to wind down, agencies and budgets are going to be gutted. i sure as hell don't want the "new kid on the block" to have any "cyber-security" power when they get axed. We don't need to set ourselves up for an "authority vacuum".
"... I guess the tech economy is improving. We are getting more cool stuff stories and less lawsuit stories (except for SCO)...."
i certainly hope this is the case and not that there are just sooo many crap-lawsuit stories that people are just sick and tired of them. Not that it takes much to get tired of them though;-p
i'm with you on being happy to see more of this type of story. The site design is top notch, if you like design, check Kaliber 10k for daily goodness (and some fucking mad backend coding for some of these things).
And dare i say it? Yes. Learn to use it before trying to install it....the knowledge gained from just using linux will be a great aid in learning to install it.
Use a live cd or friend's computer if you have to!
A somewhat helpful article, but not too much meat and i hate clicking through so many pages during one article.
i still maintain the best way to learn is to sit and watch a linux-savy friend do a few installs, ask questions, take notes, and keep them near when you try it for the first time. Sorry, but that's the best way;)

NRO products, provided to an expanding list of customers like the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Department of Defense (DoD), can warn of potential trouble spots around the world, help plan military operations, and monitor the environment."

OI! Wash that before you give it back!
Here.

Paron me? Flamebait? Hardly.

So no, that was not flamebait.
...get out those tinfoil hats, kids.
Not trolling either.

God help the poor slob that first discovers slashdot on today of all days!

This reminds me of what my mother used to say:
Be careful of how hard you try to get attention, you may not garner the type you intended.

shitty hardware will be free....the good stuff will cost you money.
...his testicles, for keeping.
...think "art" ;-P
It's a well known fact that if shit art is placed in a swanky gallery and priced absurdly high, it will sell like hotcakes.
Judging the intelligence of those purchasing is left as an excercise for the reader.
Not trolling, but take this quote:
"'We're nowhere near Apple's numbers.'"
and ask yourself how many people have even heard of them compared to those that have heard of Apple. No big surprise here.
...well, it's mostly /.'ed, but i saw the first shot of the hot girl using it as an mp3 player and i don't care what it is, i neeed it.
i need the hot chicks. Come on, this is slashdot, you were thinking it too.
If the new language doesn't support your needs, shut up and don't use it.
Use what is best for the situation and don't whine.

Alright, time for handholding:

From their site
What the fuck do you think the NRO does?
No, i wonder about the one's we do know about...much easier to sneak a toy or two into space. ;-)

[foil]...wonder what else went up with it? *cough* NRO *cough* [/foil]
Now i feel old AND stupid. Thanks a lot you insensitive clod!
...unless they plan to BUY google in April!!!
[tinfoil]oh shit...i bet the deal has already gone through!!! what have they done!?[/tinfoil]
Thank you, that is all.
Big fucking deal. When they build the 1:2 scale model, then i'll be impressed....and move off of this rock.
