"The patch is not a visibly dense field of floating debris".
Since it is not visible it will likely be very difficult to collect or concentrate. I think there will be many technological challenges which may make the bean counters correct on this. It is a shame nonetheless.

After reading the article a couple of times, it seems that this is a tool that needs to be coupled with a scanner. This is a method that determines malware is trying to disguise itself or intefere with a scanner. Therefore a simple attack method would be to be a normal program and not try to disguise itself. The only way it could be detected would be for a scanner to already have a signature for that malware program. Hence this is a tool that should be incorporated in already existing anti-malware programs and not a standalone detector.
Do I understand this correctly? And if so I am underwhelmed. I need a tool that can detect zero day attacks and this does not seem to be that.

If the readers have total control such as in Wikipedia it will have the same problems that Wikipedia did. Almost all of those complaints revolved around politically charged topics/persons. The politically charged environment in the US will just make it ugly.
Of course this is IMHO.

There is talk about decentralized data and in some applications that might make sense. But a Data Center is about data and controlling the data. All those little mobile, embedded drillbit computers will be interacting with web based services in some manner either to get or post data. Those web services will be in a data center.
Some others mentioned that the mainframe is dead. Well that may be true for the most part, but the function that the mainframe provided is being provided now by a mix of Windows, Linux and Unix machines but the function remains, just a different machine form factor.
Just as IE took time to overcome Netscape, so shall Linux Desktop. The advent of cheaper machines sold at Walmart and Office depot are likely to make this happen. How can they afford the Microsoft tax and charge $299 for the pc.

I think MS should become really scared, because Linux is doing to MS what MS did to Netscape. As Paul Maritz of MS said "cut off Netscape's air supply", now Linux cuts off MS's air supply.
It is a good day:)

I love it when non-engineers tell the engineers it was easy for them to fix, and why didn't they fix it earlier.

For our business. So I bet there is a contract in place with RedHat that all business computers must have RedHat on them instead of Ubuntu. Julian

I understand we are talking about virtual machines that is multiple OS's running on the same machine simultaneously.
My question is: what does that offer me? Other then possibly running a linux and XP on my home machine what could that possibly offer anyone?
Thanx

Let's form a WOW matrix within our Matrix and Cartman will be our Neo. Julian

Instead of magazines, how about wallpaper, cheap big screen tvs, I like that idea.

Can you run the Win32 Winmodem driver with Wine on Linux?
Put a smiley in after the word "reboot", or this may invite a flood of flame. Julian
