I'll be interested when I see Jane McGonigal in the writing credits. As far as I know, she's by far the leading expert on Alternate Reality Games. A lot of her papers can be found on her website, and are a really good read.

What? Anarchy Online? Not only is it not dead, isn't it one of the only MMO's at the moment that has a steadily increasing number of players (due to the new first-year-totally-free policy)?
I've seen schemes like this before, and honestly, I think it's pretty clever advertising. If someone wants to send me an iPod in exchange for taking in a few ads or services, be my guest. If you know what you're trading, there's really nothing wrong.
That said, I would do something like freeipods.com in a second if they had anything like that in Canada, but it seems like Canadian advertisers haven't jumped on that bandwagon. Has anyone seen a Canadian advertising company do something like this?
That's interesting, since I downloaded the free release of GTA1 and have passed it around, and I've only seen it run into problems on one computer (it crashed when you exited).
Put simply, if there was any real desire to make this a 'real movie' and not a 'lame video game adaptation', Tom Clancy would be on the writing credits. He threw his weight behind the game, why not the movie? Add to that a "dynamic, original" new character, and odds are really good that this is going to be very forgettable.
You still have a chance to play the beta even if you haven't preordered... but only if you live outside North America. From the Guild Wars FAQ:

I've been using a 15" Viewsonic VA520 for a few years already. You see a lot of ghosting when, say, you drag a dialog box around the screen. The odd thing is, when I boot up UT2004, I can try as hard as I want and won't see any ghosting whatsoever. Playing on a CRT for too long gives me a headache, which I can play pretty much whatever I want for however long I want on the LCD with no problems at all. When I first got it, I assumed it would be exactly the opposite. Long story short, after gaming on an LCD I've never gone back.
Plus, having an LCD makes LAN parties a whole lot easier to pack for.
I've been looking forward to Half Life 2. A lot. And I was entirely willing to fork over the money the day it came out.
As luck would have it, the computer I game on doesn't have an internet connection. It's either sitting at home, where I only have dial-up and the computer I game on doesn't even have a modem, or at dorm behind a freaky proxy that would never let Steam through. Trust me.
Valve, I want to give you my business. I love Half Life. I expect I'll love Half Life 2, and I'll buy it as soon as there's a crack. But don't you find it a little silly that I need to crack the game before I can even play it? And what happens when I want to play it again in thirty years, and Steam doesn't exist anymore? Are you going to release an -official- crack, then?
*Shakes head* I just don't get it. I mean, even when you have to phone Microsoft to register Windows XP, at least it works and everyone is more or less capable of it.
I don't think people realize how little you really need to play games. The Athlon 1700+ with 256mb of RAM and a Radeon 7500 that I built a couple years ago for less than a grand (including monitor) runs UT2004 at around 30fps.
Why someone needs to spend $5000 to game is beyond me.
> You mean that obscene book full or murder, rape, advocating of genocide, slavery, etc?
Please. I'm sick of people making comments like this when they obviously have no clue what's actually written in the Bible. Some select verses taken without context do not constitute knowledge of the Bible.
Anyone who says that the Bible advocates genocide and slavery really should pause for a moment and actually read or study it instead of simply using their little knowledge of it to pick a fight. It's like saying that you hated a certain character of a book that you've never read, you only hate the character because a friend of yours told you he was stupid.
Now imagine if they also included the season 1 DVD of Red vs Blue... -that- would be a bundle.
Seriously, 'special edition' releases should be a little more special than they really are. Okay, so the X-Box is green. But imagine if the bundle included:
- A green X-Box
- Halo
- Halo soundtrack
- A bonus DVD with Making of Halo / Making of Halo 2... as well as every Marathon game, compiled for the X-Box (which wouldn't be too hard, since you could just write an emulator for them)?
- A Halo t-shirt
Then people's ears might really perk up.
Simple -- System Shock. Granted, the controls got a little in the way of the ingenuity, but the game was rock-solid.
