Well, time for some buzzing shoes with forward looking IR then.
Forward looking IR, FLIR is for generating video output. I'm sure you meant infrared sensors pointing ahead. Otherwise you might as well be using night vision or thermal imaging goggles, and at eye level no less.
I am running a Q6600 on an eVGA 680i motherboard, should have just gone with the Q6600, I have this sucker clocked at 3.3Ghz, am pushing for 3.4 but I can't get it stable yet.
"I played DDO from launch and for 2 months after before I just gave up" -That's like a year ago, don't you think there might be some changes now?
I'm aware there have been significant changes made to DDO, but for me personally, its too little too late. If WoW didn't exist (I don't play WoW any more either) DDO might have had a chance to launch crappy and patch to something decent, but as it stands, its likely they will flounder on for another year or two then shut down the servers for good.
Unfortunely it was based on D&D 3.5 and if that wasn't bad enough, it was based on Eberron.
The game is almost entirely instanced (ala Guildwars) with only players interacting in the cities (also instanced to spread load) overall its not very immersive.
I played DDO from launch and for 2 months after before I just gave up, Eberron just didn't do it for me, and many things were quite badly broken by design, abuse of Use Magic Device for heal wands, Warforged not being able to be healed except by Wizards who refused to prepare heal spells for them, etc.
There was a video on Youtube showing a guy scratching the underside of a Blu ray disk until his razor blade was blunt. He then put the disk into a PS3 and played it.
The disk appeared to be scratched up, but it also appeared to be playing fine.
Vista owners are looking for a new OS. Why does this confuse you? If Vista is as bad as Louderback says it is, gnu/linux is the only upgrade option that will work. Large numbers of Windoze users looking at a site like Distrowatch is bad news for M$ and good news for software freedom.
IMHO, the only "new" OS that someone who is presently running Vista is looking to install on their PC is Windows XP. "Making the Switch" is much more intimidating for people who are not as experienced (The majority of those presently running Vista.)
Many new laptops that are coming with Vista Basic or Vista Business installed no longer have XP Drivers, Sony is especially guilty of this with their VAIO laptops. I expect all major manufacturers to stop supporting XP and providing XP drivers on their laptops by the end of this year.
Really? Got any good links for welding tips? I'm about to start arc welding as soon as I get my garage cleaned out a bit more and clean the oil off the floor. (My career is systems programming/administration, my hobby is rebuilding/restoring cars)
Be nice to be able weld my own floorboards in and handle sheet-metal patches. (Yes, I'll have the argon addition to my welder when I get to the sheet metal patching)
Do not look directly at the welding tip.
I kid I kid..
If you've really never done it before, or not done it much, You might want to check out or buy a book or two before you begin, and wear something with sleeves, preferably less flammable, and please do use a proper welding mask, sunglasses don't count.
Definately rtfm that (hopefully) came with the arc welder first.
You can tell a business is in trouble if they start attacking their own customers. Even the most retarded businessman doesn't want his own customers to hate him.
A simple fact that the movie and music industry doesn't seem to be able to grasp.
To think that you have a win win formula of telling the difference between a compression audio file and a cd just by the sound of the cymbal and kick drum, is both insulting to the drummer and sound engineer,
I'd think this was obvious, but in an apples to apples comparison you would be comparing the same source/track in an uncompressed or "lossless" compression format compared to a "lossy" one.
So I don't really see your point. Unless maybe you've been conducting double blind tests using different sources/tracks, in which case I don't see the point at all for the tests.
The code is owned by the company that makes the equipment. So what? Information which matters in a court case gets subpoenaed all the time. What makes software any different then private mail, bank account records, or anything else?
Hmmmm..I think you're on to something!
1) Perform incriminating act involving proprietary device. 2) Get Caught. 3) Demand Source Code to said device. 4) ??? 5) Profit?
The Discovery Channels documentary Future Weapons featured these in one of the earlier episodes.
I'd wager the bullet magnet role is not as impressive as what letting loose a dozen of these mounted with.50 cal sniper rifles on a mountain side could do though.
They seem like they'd be more efficiently deployed as disposable sniper units than front line combat units.
SKU = Shelve Keeping Unit / Store Keeping Unit. Why do you have a problem with this?
Its a common retail acronym. Its frequently used these days to identify types of console bundles which are to be announced before formal notification has been made.
Personally I find "new buzzwords" like podcasting, vlogging, ARGs to be more annoying.
As much as I love the Starcraft/Command and Conquer games, I won't buy them. At least not for several years. I was sorely disappointed that Command and Conquer 3 wouldn't run on a one year old top of the line computer (and I returned it to the store). PC games are ridiculous, as far as requirements go. I'm looking forward to buying Starcraft 2 from the bargain bin in a few years when I own a PC capable of playing it.
What specs was this 1 year old top of the line computer? I've had no problems running it on my 1 1/2 year old mid-upper range rig.
--There are other things that use parallel ports besides printers. For instance, I happen to still have an Original Iomega 100MB Zip drive - you telling me I have to give that up just cuz of your "precious backboard real estate?" Get real.
I'm sure that zip drive is still (somehow) relevant now, but you should probably consider tossing it out in the next 2 or 3 years if and when you buy a new PC.
If you're expecting manufacturers to continue putting legacy interfaces and devices on the market, you need to "get real"
Unplug a PS/2 mouse, plug a different one in, and it usually just works. Unplug a USB mouse, plug a different one in, and wait for the "HID driver" to be installed before you can move it.
Actually on many older boards, unplugging then replugging a PS/2 Keyboard will either cause the system to hang, or require a reboot to initialize the keyboard.
Actually, IDE to SATA converters do exist. They are abundant here in SE Asia, Stateside you probably have to buy them online. Newegg and mwave will almost definately have them.

Huh? What?
I thought the ideal of Capitalism was that the rich get richer, and everyone else contributes to their wealth?
Hmmm...How many other blogs and sites featured at Slashdot with ads is "featured" on a weekly basis with low signal to noise ratios? One, Piqy's blog.

Yes but what fraction of a library of congress is a U.S. quarter?
Actually some still do.
The ABIT IP-35 and Microstar's new P35 boards both have PS/2 Ports, a single IDE channel, and a floppy channel.
I just assembled 350 of these for a preliminary leg of the WCG

Actually I think its due to not letting enough lions loose on the Christians in the Colosseum.
But that'd be animal cruelty.. har har.
