More regional linguistic *weirdness*, consider the state of Missouri (I lived there once, I found this quite funny after I moved there). Rural areas pronounce it "Mizz-urr-uhh", whereas the urban areas there pronounce it "Mizz-urr-ee", and NO where do they pronounce it "Mizz-urr-aye" which is what you would think it would be just looking at the spelling if you had never seen it or heard the name before.

I spent 5 years in Missouri for college, 3 in a rural town (population 20,000 something) the explanation I got for the difference in pronunciation was that those who were born and raised in Missouri pronounced it "Mizz-ooo-ruh" to differentiate themselves from "city-slickers" and those who were just residents of the State of Missouri.

I'm still not sure why its the "Show Me State" though.

As opposed to what? Speed run through the game, then get a new game? Diablo II style, where the map is always different, not like it matters anyway? Hell, most LAN parties are FPS, and they generally use the same level over and over again.

The difference is that with online play or at a lanparty, the otherwise meaningless repetition of playing through the same level over and over again, is made meaningful by having copious amounts of fresh meat, who will hopefully start behaving differently after I've nailed them in the head with an AK-47 for the third consecutive round.

Playing said level single player or against bots (as is the case with platformers like mario) is entirely pointless, unless it is to familiarize yourself with the level in order to "pwn some n00bs" at a later date.

Nintendo has repeatedly resisted and refused to incorporate online play as a component of their consoles and games. Yes I do own a Wii, but its collecting dust in my living room, the novelty wore off in about 2 weeks. Its modded and yes I do have a considerable amount of bandwidth with which to download wii games, but I can't even be bothered frankly.

My PS3 is only occasionally used right now (busy with work these few months) mainly to play Ninja Gaiden.

If you can't tell the difference between 128kb and lossless formats, its quite likely that your source either sucked originally, or your speakers aren't good enough.

If you try "audiophile grade" earphones, headphones or speakers (Grado, Shure, Klipsch, Etymotic Research etc) you will likely hear a big difference between the two. That and that alone makes copying PS3 games expensive. This was one of the reasons why the PS2 had DVD since coping games to a DVD was expensive in 2000. Over time as Blu-Ray disks come down in price you will start to see pirating of games but this becomes a none event when you can get second-hand games and even some newer games fairly cheap.

HDloaders. Rip or FTP/Samba the files over to a harddrive. No burning involved. As far as bluray is concerned I don't think it will happen any time soon.

I think one of the strongest selling points for the Wii is that there are modchips already available. And you can download and burn games onto DVDRs.

Its likely that once the PS3s copy protection has been broken, their sales will increase drastically (much more so than a price cut would induce.) Because even without the relative availability and affordability of bluray burners, being able to easily swap out the harddrive (or hack the interface to fit a full size 3.5" SATA drive) will work.

This also seemed to be the case with the Xbox 360 hacked drive firmware and the PSP downgrades. I'm not sure if anyone has tabulated any sales figures, pre or post each consoles DRM being defeated, but I'm willing to wager those numbers would look quite interesting.

I'm sure this is a bad thing (tm) for software publishers and developers, but as far as the competition for the number of consoles sold goes, having your DRM cracked = console sales.
