I don't think there has ever been a new MS OS release that has run faster on the same hardware than its predecessor.
I managed to get Vista business running pretty much like 2K, I don't really feel the need to have all the shiny, bloated stuff. One of the main reasons I even switched to Vista (aside from receiving it as a free upgrade) is to check out DirectX 10.
More alarming than some new MS games for windows (Halo 2 and Shadowrun) REQUIRING vista to play, is the fact that to play online you have to pony up for Xbox Live..I wish MS the best of luck convincing PC users to get leeched like they've managed with their console gamers, no way in hell I'm paying for online play for an FPS.
I'd argue whether they are switching intentionally, or because it is already preinstalled in their new PC or laptop, but the fact holds true.
As far as negative reactions of the masses to Vista, I also doubt how much the majority really cares what OS their PC comes with as long as it will run IE, Messenger and MSOffice.
No need to toss around flamebait mods just because you disagree with the content of the post.
I've been using 16x Printable Ritek DVD+R DLs, I've burned almost 100 pieces and have only failed once so far at writing the leadout. no layer break failures yet. Though I am only burning at 2.4x

I don't doubt your sincerity for wanting to be a good parent, or your belief in that you are doing a good job. Heck you could be an awesome parent for all I know.
But at 10 and 15, I'm calling it way too early to tell how good your parenting will be in the future.
I'd reckon you're not in the clear as far as how well your parenting efforts have gone until your kids are in their early twenties at the very earliest.
Its not just children, many adults need to be physically threatened before they will conform or behave.
Otherwise the military and law enforcement would just need megaphones and bags of candy. As evidenced by modern military and police actions, laws, punishment, some people need to have the shit beaten out of them and even killed before they and their peers will behave.
If physical force has to be used to keep adults (who definately know better) in line, how is it even remotely possible to keep some kids in line without force or threat of physical force.
Think about it, the egyptains made the pyramids only a few thousand years ago and was hardly any information about them when we found them. Imagine if they were nuclear waste storage.
They set up traps, alligators, had deadly fungal spores in them, but when we started excavating them, these dangers were all a nonissue.
I'd be willing to wager that in thousands of years, finding a forgotten stockpile of nuclear "waste" will be a akin to finding a hidden treasure trove of potential energy. Or at the very least they will be able to dispose of it in a trivial manner.
Use a massive Rail gun to send nuclear waste into the sun?
Didn't NASA have plans to build a railgun capable of lobbing traincar sized packages to the moon quite a number of years back? Could use it for all kinds of nifty things. Lobbing food, oxygen and space station building materials into orbit etc.
We need to have a source of reliable cheap electricity to make the aluminum. And we don't at this time.
Solar, Hydro, Wind, Geothermal and Nuclear energy are all viable potential sources of cheap electricity. Most of these technologies are almost ready. They just have a few fairly small technical and politico-social obstacles (including the petroleum industry) to overcome left to overcome.
They also conviniently forget the fact that said batteries are Nickel-Metal Hydrides, and that nickel refining produces shitloads of Sulfur Dioxide resulting in nice friendly acid rain.
Burning fossil fuels I would think, would produce a more significant amount of Sulfur Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide as well as a slew of other toxic gases over the lifetime of a vehicle.
What's to stop someone from just waiting until they leave port then following the ship/boat?
Wonder how they stop that one suspicious cabin cruiser that keeps tailing them from port to salvage site. Maybe some kind of court order or injunction..what if another takes its place..
I'd imagine the easiest way would be to lure these stalkers into international waters then sink them with the cannons.
"Dumb analogy complaining sports have substance abuse rules. Why not let athletes who have been loaded up on steroids compete against those who trained without them?"
That _is_ kind of a dumb analogy, considering "modding" your Xbox360, or in this case re-flashing the optical drive firmware gives you no advantage over "the playing field"
Its not like flashing the drive lets you run cheats or install your aimbot. The only playing field in question is shelling out $50 for the games.
Its totally understandable that they are doing this to try to ensure people only buy original games, but it has nothing to do with keeping the playing field fair.
Digital wallets IMHO have not been well received thus far because they have not been that well implemented. Many of the systems I've observed in use, require you to deposit cash onto a cashcard or similar instrument before you can apply it to your digital wallet.
Also here in Singapore there is no way you can refill said wallets online, or link them to a bank account (whether its a good idea is another thing) You're limited to paying paper money to load them up, or having to go to an ATM machine and do the transfer from your bank account.
Another system they've tried is vending machines you "phone" into, much like 1900 numbers, which dispense your beverage and then tacks the fee onto your phone bill.
It's a little late to be jumping on the spread-the-AACS-key bandwagon, isn't it? 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0
Not if you realize how hard is it to write "09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0" on thousands of playground balls and them load them into chutes in the ceiling!
I think you're missing part of the lesson to be learned from the Wii. That being that innovation in gameplay
I'm calling it a fluke. Judging from their last 2 consoles, N64, Gamecube..the innovation in Wii was part calculated risk and part sheer dumb luck instead of any revolutionary forward thinking.
This is probably also a result of using Chinese manufacturing firms, who have not historically cared about quality in the first place.
If you decided to outsource manufacturing to the the lowest bidder, who is fulfilling your order with slave labor..do you honestly think you'd be caring about quality?
If so, you're deluded. If not, then what makes you think they care any more than you do?
Yeah the new Xbox 360 elites actually have blobs of epoxy holding down the processor, its quite disturbing.
Thats how shoddy the soldering work is, you've got to cut costs somewhere! Arguably part of that is due to the use of ROHS compliant (lead-free) solder.
Many of the Red ring of death cases from the earlier batches of Xbox360s were also because of this.
Resoldering the processor back yourself is likely not an option for most saner people, you're best off giving them a call and sending it in. (don't send in the harddrive if you're sure its working fine, you'll lose your saved games)
Holy shit, MS rigged their Xboxes and 360s to self-destruct if they ever got out of the console business?
Well actually...Xbox 360s have IBM's eFuse technology http://www.globalmanufacture.net/home/communities/ informationtechnology/techIBM.cfmM/url>
So yes, they could very well self destruct when they exit the console business if they chose. There are numerous hacks to bypass eFuse now, and presently when you upgrade the firmware on your 360 you will not be able to revert to an earlier version, because those circuit traces have been burned away.
It is also theoretically possible for them to send your Xbox a "kill signal" causing it to fry if they so desired for whatever reason.
I've got a 100GB Toshiba in there, I paid $60 for it. and the standard 40GB one that came with the thinkpad is in an external USB case.
I have 55GB allocated for data applications etc, and the rest partitioned out for the 4 OSes. I require all of them (well except OSX) for testing builds of my companys in-house software.
I've also noticed this on my ~1 year old Lenovo Thinkpad R50e. I've got it quad booting Edgy Eft, vista, xp and OSX86 10.4.3
Its not running aero because I've only got intel integrated 855 video, but the battery life between all 4 of them with wifi on (except in OSX, I can't get the Intel PRO wireless working) is pretty much the same, I didn't see any noticeable differences in the battery life between OSes.
the new explorer is a lousy clone of mac osxs pathfinder (basically a clone of the worst features of finder and pathfinder)
I agree with pretty much all the rest of your statements except this one.
I'd argue that pathfinder is at least as crappy as the vista explorer, it probably just doesn't seem that way because you're accustomed to it.
Over my years of computing, I've always gone back to the "Norton Commander" style of file explorer and the slew of clones (more recently Volkov Commander and Total Commander among others) that have come forth as I find them the most efficient, intuitive and lightweight file manager systems. Maybe its the combination of the CLI and dual-panes of browsing, combined with hotkeys.

Do these marketing campaigns really work? Is there some way to tell?
It seems the only people they are virally marketing to are the ones who are already dead set on buying their games once they are released..
I'd argue whether they are switching intentionally, or because it is already preinstalled in their new PC or laptop, but the fact holds true.

I think you all are completely missing the point.
This is meant to be a portable pornography portal.
No you can't.
In fact even if you totally don't have a TV they will try to squeeze the fee out of you.
You try calling up to explain your TV is magically "detuned", they don't give a shit.

I'm fairly certain that making offline RPGs or games in general more like WoW is not a good thing.
