    From Usenet:

The current season of Jeopardy will air new shows through July 23.
From then until sometime right after Labor Day they will air repeats.

Jeopardy wrapped taping of this season's shows in April, at which time
they also taped the first ten shows of next season.

As of the July 23rd show Ken Jennings will have won 38 shows, and when
they return in the fall he will be seen to win the first ten shows of
the new season, with a cumulative total winning somewhere around 1.5
    million.

They will resume taping for the 2004-5 season sometime in August, when
Ken Jennings will return to continue as undefeated champion for who
knows how long. So yes, Ken is home in Utah right now, waiting until
    August.

While you have a very valid point about traffic flow and convenience, I have to ask why, if this is such a good business model, don't we hear about all the big chains doing it?

There actually is a legitimate reason for this. Most Starbucks in the country are company owned. So they can take the short term hit of having two locations next to each other for the long term improvement in business. On the other hand, most fast food joints are franchise operations, and each one has its own exclusive territory which they want to preserve. So the franchisee doesn't want to open another store of the same kind across the street because the franchisor isn't giving them money to do it (and it would be a large short term financial hit), while if any other franchisee moves in close proximity, the existing franchisee will scream bloody murder.

Almost every library in the country even remotely close to a decent sized population will have some sort of internet connection available to patrons, for *FREE* 90% of the time.

But you have to have a library card at most public libraries, and most of the time they will only give library cards to residents of the same state or city.

Now, college and university libraries are a much, much different story.

Of course in Los Angeles, the metro rail isn't allowed into the airport -- the closest it gets is about a couple miles away and you have to take a bus or taxi from there to get in. Why? Because LAX would lose so much money from taxicabs, shuttles, towncars, limos, buses, etc.

Yes, but the shuttle bus is free. It's no worse than Boston, which has an "airport" station that requires a shuttle bus connection. If they just renamed the Aviation station the "Airport" station, I bet a lot of people would quit complaining.

I agree, but it depends on the environment. I leave my wireless AP open because this is a relatively spread out neighborhood where I get 67% signal 6 feet from the access point (in other words, the AP is a POS that can't even transmit 50 feet). It's not near a window and I would notice if someone is parking on the street that I don't recognize.

And if someone is hacking when I'm at work, then I'm not responsible, just as I'm not responsible if someone plugs into the phone jack outside the house and starts making prank calls. And when I'm here I would notice a sudden drop in upload speeds (due to spammers or DDOS). So I leave it open here, but if I was in a college town, or in a block of dense apartments, I sure wouldn't leave it open for a second.

The stated reason was that if Clear Channel syndicated Randi, then Rush Limbaugh would bolt from Premiere Radio Networks (the syndication arm of Clear Channel).

So, while Clear Channel may not be conservative themselves, by syndicating all of these conservative hosts, they are liable to be jerked around by them even when it may not make any business sense whatsoever.
