  1. Re:It's a declaration. on EU To Monitor All Internet Searches · · Score: 2, Interesting

Apparently delegates often sign petitions and declarations without really understanding them. After media picked up the story, several EU delegates withdrew their signatures from the declaration after realizing that the small-print violates several data-protection laws. I think the EU government largely understands the issues involved here.

You say that, but I still have daily use of my typing classes I had to take in 7th grade. I was already "tech-savvy" (why, I had an Amiga at home!) but being forced to learn the touch-type method sped up my typing immensely.

For the record, I typed this entire comment while looking out the window.

Look closely. It says "!itastrap", i.e. it's not a trap. From the tagging FAQ:
    • For the opposite of a tag, prefix it with "!", e.g. "!funny" means "not funny."
  5. Postmodernism != muck on A Closer Look at Star Wars on Film and Off · · Score: 1
As an audience, we grapple with not just the intricate clockwork of a complex and interwoven narrative, but, in postmodern fashion, with the fundamental mechanics of storytelling itself.
Sorry, but blaming postmodernism can never excuse a poorly written script. I think the truth is these last three movies just don't bother trying to tell a convincing story - not out of some postmodern zeal for focusing on rushing the plot, but out of sheer laziness and utter disregard for the audience's intelligence. "Icky, icky goo!"

Indeed, although I was a little disappointed that the footage was taken from so far away. What I would love to see is a continuous video from the start of a space craft until it is out in the blackness space.
