  1. cheap cheap cheap on Is The 6-Month Product Cycle Upon Us? · · Score: 2, Informative

I think it ia WALL*MARTidous, everyone wants the best stuff cheap, companies are trying to meet the demand, but there are still a few people who want quality, look at PCs, dell==CHEAP, they sell zillions of units a year, vs. say aleinware, or apple who combined don even touch half of dell, but have MUCH better quality.

What if the companies like apple, novell, redhat, and any company that sells Linux or UNIX band together and stop this nonsence.

P2P, IMHO, is the ideal way to transfer linux isos which would make normal server to client connections buckle!

P2P is a tool, like a hammer, it can build a home or knock one down.

Why rely on the UN, they can feed the children and distribute medicine, food and first aid , but leave tech to the geeks, not the government(s).

  7. Steve Jobs on Who Wrote Linux? · · Score: 0

yes, infact steve Jobs wrote linux after leaving apple in the early 90's just before founding NeXT.

He was assisted by his good friend and now board member of Apple, Al Gore, just after inventing the internet he was desperate for a new project.

the project was later abandoned because Steveo had no propriatery hardware to bundle it with so he found this linus punk and droped the sourse code in his lap.

  8. What is so bad about ipod on Dell Offers $100 For Old iPods · · Score: 0

What is the big deal with the iPod battery anyway, you can change it, and when you look at other portable audio players the iPod is a pretty good deal, I never had a diskman last 3 years, and cassette walkmans went even faster.

All you have to do to keep the iPod in working order for another 2-3 years is change the battery, and at$75, that is $25 per year, far less than the double As that would be consumed by most portable music players.

Are replacement batteries available for the dell? And how much $$ do they want for it?

As a life-long Indiana resident, I have seen the stupidity of this state, this is a state that will close a major road by a football stadium for construction a day before the football season starts, this is a state that takes 4 days to fill 2 pot-holes. and the IT, well, if this is run with the same level of inefficiency as public school intranets and WANs , which it will be, then you would have to be a fool to use it, besides private industry already does this much better, it is called GO-TO-MY-PC.

The cinemas were packed with geeks (in the interest of disclosure I myself am a geek), nerds, and a few generally fun seeking teens and 20-somethings, now look at the ticket lines on Broadway in NYC, I can't imagine the theater-going types glomming onto LOTR, and access, I don't know how prevalent theaters are in England, but in the USA, geeks are loyal, but i doubt a mass pilgrimage of the LOTR crowd to NY, while i would love to see this Succeed, but i doubt it.
