HAHAHAHAHA!!! I bet your post gets marked as 5 insightful:-)
I am not on a high horse. You are just a petty thief so from your perspective, honest people are on a high horse.
Theft is taking something that doesn't belong to you without permission. When you download a movie, that is exactly what you are doing. All you are saying is that since you are not taking a physical item (a DVD for example), it isn't theft. You refuse to accept the taking intellectual property is theft. You might have a point as far as current US law goes. However, ethically, it is still theft.
"When you go over to someones house (after they invite you in, of course) examine an object of theirs, and go home and make your own... That's copyright infringement. Assuming, of course, that object was in fact under copyright and not public domain or anything. "
So you are saying that after watching a movie you go home, pull out a camcorder, and film your own movie? Give me a break!
What you are doing isn't recreating someone's work. You are stealing their work. You are downloading a copy of a movie that you didn't pay for. You are stealing their hard work.
You can play semantic games all you want to. What you are doing is still a form of theft.
If you are picking a distro for a business environment you are going to have to choose a distro that the CFO, CEO, and all the other non linux people know. You will choose the one that you can get support for because that will be the requirement the non technical people set. You will have to choose the distro that third parties build for.
Gentoo? Ubanatu? Debian? Try saying Ubanatu to the CFO. The choices are RedHat and Suse (because Suse is novell).
I agree that the submitter made a mistake with the post when they state securityfocus as their source but post a secunia link, but, there is a vulnerability in the current version of firefox.
"The vulnerability has been confirmed in Mozilla 1.7.3 for Linux, Mozilla 1.7.5 for Windows, and Mozilla Firefox 1.0. Other versions may also be affected."
Notice it doesn't state firefox for windows. That implies it is vulnerable for all versions of firefox.
The article isn't misleading. It clearly states that the second issue effects firefox versions before 1.0.
"Everyone makes mistakes. Britannica makes fewer mistakes, but the mistakes they do make last for an entire year (or longer, for people who don't buy the new set every year). Wikipedia makes more mistakes, but they are corrected as soon as they are uncovered."
No, the wikipedia mistakes aren't corrected as soon as they are uncovered. As the Britannica Editor mentions, the mistakes got worse as more editing was done.
What? How is the parent interesting? Is there a score for not true.
I was a Sun admin back in the 2.6 days. We used gcc to compile and gzip to compress. They were available and easy to get in pkg format. Traditionally, being an admin for a Sun system was much easier then being a Linux Admin because Sun boxes were much more stable then Linux PCs.
"You can't make a character with claws like Wolverine but making a guy wearing yellow and black with a mask and regenerative abilities is possible. Is that same as Wolverine? Probably not. It's all a judgement call. Does DC own the rights to "Guy with blue and red tights who flys around?" "
Of course you can make a a character with claws! Mutant scrapper with primary power of claws and a secondary power of regen.
But that isn't the point of the lawsuit. Marvel is suing because of looks and names, not powers. With CoH's character design (the best one I've seen), you could easily make characters that look like Wolverine, Superman (though the S is different), and even Clark Kent (complete with the suit and glasses). To bad playing the game wasn't as fun as designing the character's look.
RC stands for release candidate, right? This is supposed to mean that it isn't in beta, most of its bugs are fixed, and they are doing final tests to make sure everything works. One of the RC releases will end up as the final release, right?
Shouldn't the release candidates have consistency?

More nonsense. Some biased organisation tries to score some points by saying America's press is 30th in the world. So what?!?
It seems that slashdot is about as biased against the US as it is against Microsoft and software patents.
"The thing is i couldnt care less. If they "flamebait" comments like this, im actually proud to have "bad" karma. I have no idea where are the moderators are living, but when a heavily centralised goverment with a not rocket scientist leader to say the least thinks he knows better whats good for the world rather than following international "standards", then when someone points it out, shouldn't be considered flamebait."
I am not sure about marking this as a troll or a flamebait comment, but can we mark this as poor use of english. It seems to me that if you are going to suggest that someone is stupid, it would help if you didn't mangle the sentence in which you make the suggestion.
Yes, it isn't out yet. They are still beta'ing it so it isn't production quality. Doing a comparison between a production release of linux and a beta release of Solaris is worthless to an Admin.
I guess the reason I am not scared is that I don't search for things that I would be embarressed if others knew what I searched for. If someone looks over my shoulder at my amazon page they will see I am a pretty boring person without any debbie does transvestite comming out dan fetishes.
Now, all it needs is to be combined into a phone, have the ability to surf the internet, make ssh connections to work from anywhere, let me take notes on it, and be able to be used as a contact manager.
Of course, it will need a larger Hard Drive, a keyboard, and probably more ram, as well.
What I really want is this, an ipod, a palm pilot, a phone, and the power of a computer all combined into one small mobile unit. That's it. That's all I want.

"Wanted: Will trade slightly used governmental system of checks and balances w/ personal freedom for SAFETY."
You got to be kidding you would rather live as a safe slave then be free? That's ignorant!

Fellowship of the Ring. The book is downright boring.
What are borgish management techniques?

You need to work on your reading skills.

Stop being mindless zealots.
Wrong. The first issue affects the current version. If you clicked on the link you would have noticed this:
Software: Mozilla 1.7.x
Mozilla Firefox 1.x
How can his post be rated informatve when it isn't true?
That B-Bop is the same phone as the siemens sx66.

It was more successful then the first launch of arianne 5 which blew up. It got off the ground and it delivered its payload. Pretty successful to me.
Btw, Boeing is not part of the Government. How can you call boeing's spin another example of government spinning?

"Fedora 3 uses a government level of security."
So it has yellow and orange alerts? Woohoo!
Oh don't tell me, let me guess. RedHat hired John Ashcroft to head their Department of Redhat Security! That's why he resigned as Attorney General.

The treaty was with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union doesn't exist. Since one of the two signing parties doesn't exist, the treaty isn't valid.
Over 3000 comments? Let me guess, I can't believe you Americans voted for Bush! You must be nuts!
Well, allow me to respond. You voted for Jaques Chirac, Silvio Berlusconi, Gerhard Shroder, and Vladimir Putin. You call us nuts?

Why is this insightful? Solaris 10 isn't out yet so there is no comparison between it and Linux.

The ACLU is saying people who out others have the right to do so anonymously. I don't get it.
If anonymous people had outed Democrat delegates would the ACLU be backing the anonymous people? Some how I don't think so.
