I am referring to regular or premium gasoline in the US. The pump says, "May contain up to 10% ethanol." In the US Midwest this means the gasoline will contain 10% ethanol by states' legislation, in the remainder of the US the lower cost of ethanol vs. petroleum result in the 10% figure generally being applicable.

Rice and maize (corn) are both produced in greater quantities than wheat. Maize production is dominated by hybrids; a product of Big Ag. Rice is starting to be hybridized due to a genetic alteration recently introduced, with a 15-20% increase in productivity we can anticipate rapid adoption. Wheat will almost certainly follow.

The law of unintended consequences has proven many times that moving food to the starving tends to put the local farmers out of business creating the need to continue moving food. Why subsidize something to make it profitable? If there is not a natural profit in the venture, a government should do it directly thus saving taxpayers the "profit". Lowering the cost of transport does not fall under the term "simple solution". I'm not advocating letting people starve, but I don't know of any simple solutions that work though eliminating farm subsidies is a good start.

Those are examples of the hydrocarbon families, aliphatic straight chain and aliphatic branched, but not the actual molecules one will find in a sample of gasoline. The composition varies wildly, but each of those molecules seldom exceed about 10% of the over 500 compounds, which means that ethanol is likely to be the predominant constituent nowadays.

    Dear Ben,

We have lost it. It looks like we would be better off with George III ( the king, not a Bush) at this point. Somewhere along the line we let a two party system become entrenched. We now have all kinds of things you never envisioned.

+ House and Senate Whips who enforce party discipline so that voters and states respectively are not represented in Congress.

+ Procedural rules in Congress that assure that the majority party is able to wield a disproportionate influence on legislation, and those who are not members of the two parties are effectively disenfranchised.

+ A Supreme Court that has decided that a company may have rights.

+ A President who can wage war without the approval of Congress.

+ Habeas corpus has been suspended on several occasions and is currently suspended.

+ The people are no longer secure from unreasonable search and seizure.

+ New Hampshire and Iowa now have disproportionate influence on presidential elections, and they seem to do a particularly inept job of it.

+ Copyright and patent laws which are increasingly incompatible with the rights of the people and progress.

The really sad part is that people who otherwise seem to be smart enough to push for correcting these issues would rather argue whether the U.S. is a democracy,a republic, a federation, etc.

Scientology is not recognized as a religion in much of the world. Hubbard stated that that pain and sex are both "invented tools of degradation" by "destructive creatures" with the intention "to shrink people and cut their alertness, knowingness, power and reach."

Mostly they use sex as a tool for membership retention. During auditing they ask a lot of questions about sex. "Have you ever used Dianetics or Scientology to force sex on someone?", "Have you ever raped anyone?", "Have you ever been raped?", "Have you ever been involved in an abortion?", "Do you have any bastards?", "Have you ever been sexually unfaithful?", "Have you ever practiced homosexuality?", "Have you ever practiced sodomy?", "Have you ever had intercourse with a member of your family?", "Have you practiced sex with children?", "Have you ever used hypnotism to practice sex with children?", "Have you ever slept with a member of a race of another color?", "Have you ever practiced sex with animals?", "Have you ever had anything to do with pornography?", and "Have you ever masturbated?"

When you try to leave Scientology, they threaten to expose you. They have a policy of "Fair Game" on their opponents.

Childbirth in most of the world did not take as heavy a toll as it did in Europe in 1532, and there were other significant differences that we cannot ignore.

Apps are far less than half the equation; hardware even less. We have always been able to find developers willing to work for non-monetary compensation, so any decent app for the iPhone will have an equivalent for Android, WinMo and any other platforms with a decent base.

Content is king! Apple seems to be doing a good job of securing content for the iOS devices, in many cases exclusive content. Taking a 30% cut of content is evil, Apple did not and does not invest anything into the production of the content (music, movies, television, books, magazines, etc.), they should not share in profits from that content to more than a token degree.
