I have the same problem. After about 3 months of owning my Dell Inspiron 5100, the power cord (the adapter that actually slides INTO the laptop itself) got so damn hot it literally melted through the wire coating. When I put electricians tape over the wire to temporarily fix it, it melted through the electricians tape: literally, the tape became all gooey and it was hell to get it back off. They sent me another one, but I see the problem happening all over again... it's already starting to get frayed after another 4-5 months.
Yes, but as a somewhat, shall we say, intermediate programmer, and one who would especially like to learn all about the new OOP enviroments in PHP 5, would you recommend this for practicing with until PHP 5 becomes standard?
My webhost is just a college dude who rents a server out monthly and resells it to guys like me. Actually, I became a reseller under him, so I have root access to the server. I'm sure I could convince him to upgrade pretty soon. In the meantime, I'd love to fool with PHP 5 on my own machine.
Any thoughts?
"Kerry's solution to stop terrorism? He'd go to the U.N. and build a consensus. How naive. France's Jacques Chirac, Germany's Gerhard Schroeder, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and other Iraq oil-for-food scam artists don't want America to succeed. They want us brought down to their level. And more and more, Kerry sounds just like them. In a recent campaign speech, Kerry said America was in the wrong war, in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
"No doubt John Kerry sincerely wants to serve his country, but we believe he's the wrong man, in the wrong place, at the wrong time."
ah, yes. It was a reference to I Love Bees.com, which had some serious Halo 2 rumors circulating around it about a month ago... but I'm sure you all knew that.
In some ways, this will be interesting, especially in multiplayer. However, in the first Halo's campaign missions, I distinctly remember how having health in addition to the shields lended itself to very interesting encounters:
In "Two Betrayals", for instance, you would use your shields energy to overpower Halo's reactors. Then, of course, a ton of enemies would come in and you would have nothing but your very limited health to keep you alive.
It also had those stupid little poppin Flood things that only damaged your health. They won't be worth squat in Halo 2 if you don't have health to worry about, lol.
I, personally, would say increase the shields, like they have done, remove the health for multiplayer, but have limited health in the Campaigns.
Halo is a thing where you either love it, or hate it. I've talked to many people over the years about the game, and they all either love it, or don't understand what the hype is about.
I, of course, love it. I love the shield / health system, I love the limited, yet distinct, weapons, all having strenghts and weaknesses, and I especially love the vehicles.

There has been fan-talk on Bungie.net about Halo 2 on the PC, and, to a lesser extent, Mac. Nothing confirmed either way by Bungie, but I would say that it would be reasonable to expect Halo 2 ported to the PC in about a year: I, for one, would be an eager buyer. I don't want to fork out money for Xbox Live when I already have a PC that can play online with my already-necessary broadband connection.
That said, I will be playing Halo 2 over at my friends houses quite a bit.
That's retarded. While there was a rumor that Halo 2 may be out in Spring of 04 (Or this year...), it was just that, a rumor. Bungie never said anything one way or the other about the rumor.
It was back at the e3 2004 Convention that they stated it would release on November 9th: And for the love of bees, it looks like that's what's gonna happen!
Be sure of your facts before dissing something, dude.

I recently bought two cds, Spider-Man 1 Movie Score and Spider-Man 2 Movie Score (One for me, one a birthday present: We are going to swap-out, if only for the sake of having the cool album art in our possession once in a while... anyway), and simply chose "Free Super Saving on Orders Over $25". Said 4-6 business days, but the order was packed within 24 hours, and got here 48ish hours later.
Not bad. Not bad at all. And, if you consider that I make $14 an hour programming, and you consider that I suck at finding stuff on p2p, it was probably cheaper to just buy the CDs, have them come with cool album art, and get here with no fuss, than to try to find them on some p2p prog where all the audio files are actually disguised Britney Spears wannabes.
I simply don't have time to fuck about looking for files that aren't there. I'd rather buy, but I only buy when I want.
Maybe that explains why I only purchase movie soundtracks anymore... already heard all of the music anyway.
Yes, I've done a bit more research, and it seems that what is lacking is a TV Tuner for an Xbox... I mean, hell, we already have Linux running on the Xbox... what it lacks is an Input port, unfortunately.
I'm not yet convinced that it isn't possible: It merely hasn't been done. We have a computer with Linux and 4 USB ports... there must be some way, albeit maybe feasibly requiring a modchip with an Input Port?
If I had mod points, I'd mod you up another notch.
I've wanted an Xbox forever. My parents don't find video games the best way to spend my time, so I've been stuck to the education kiddy games that we buy for school; and, of course, the Halo Combat Evolved Trial, which resides on my laptop. However, the PC version of Halo as opposed to Xbox is like comparing an Atari to a Nintendo 64.
Anyway, our entertainment center is on just the other side of the wall that our router for our network lies on. Have dad drill one hole, and we are all set to hook the Xbox up to the network.
The way my parents are appealed to this is that if we purchased the Xbox, modchip, and a, say, 60ish gig hd, we could store all of our many CDs, play DVDs, and send our current DVD player up into my parents bedroom.
I plan to do more research, but another major selling point:
Would it be feasibly possible to use an Xbox + Modchip as a TiVo?
This interview is debatably pro-Kerry. It appears to me that Kerry is merely finding Bush's "weak" points, then trying to "exploit" them. For instance, when the media attacks Bush's views on Global Warming, Kerry will decide it is in his best interest to voice that he will take action against emissions supposedly relating to global warming.
However, global warming is NOT occuring, at least in the "magnitude" that everyone is worried about. It is, technically, a lie by the uninformed media.
This "global warming" that everyone is worried about? It's really a variation in the earth's temperature of around 2 degrees over the last century and a half!
This article has more about it, as well as this chart:
Yes, that has data taken over only the last 25 years, but I assure you, the data sames relatively the same ever since scientists have started estimating the global temperature.
In addition, we see that the graph shows temperatures rising, yes, but then going way down the very next year, then bouncing back up! That is not how I would classify global warming!!!
Here is yet another graph, this one with data over the last century!
While the last graph was taken from an article that thinks global warming IS occuring, it provides no real data for their argument. And also, their chart directly contradicts their hypothesis!
So, to recap: Global warming is a lie. To blame Bush for not taking action against global warming is to blame him for not needlessly restricting industries actions.
[I realize that Mycroft and others have said similar in their replies, however, my reply contains charts, articles and other arguements, so I posted it anyway.]
While I haven't seen this in version.93, in earlier versions, if you selected "Tools -> Options", almost every time option window would let you change options, all right, but after you were all done, it would not let you click "OK" and close the window. I had to ctr alt del to get out of FireFox. While a minor bug, it left me with doubts about the program. And seeing as if anything can go wrong, my mom will make it happen, I would rather have the program as stable as possible before having her use it, as I will be the one providing all tech support.
Personally, I wish to wait until FireFox has a standard 1.0 release before converting a user to it. Yes, you did say Mozilla, but I prefer FireFox.
Even though FireFox @ 0.9 is better than IE @ 6.0, Service Pack 2, I've decided to wait until it has a stable, 1.0 release to "convert" users. Doesn't seem like I will have to wait that much longer. The only reason I do this is because there are a few bugs, imo, that are confusing, to say the least. I can work around them, but at least with my friends using IE, it's not my fault if something goes wrong.
As for Mozilla Thunderbird... even though it isn't 1.0, I haven't had ANY problems with it. Converting my mom to that was simple enough. I just told her it didn't boot you offline like AOL.:)
Seriously, AOL sux. My mom is really happy with Thunderbird. It downloads her email, she reads the email, the end. No calendars, headline news, advertisements, etc. It gets the job done, and quite efficiently.
So: I accept the mission. But I won't carry it out... yet.
I had lots of time and the inability to generate money.
I don't know your situation, but I'm sure you could have found something to do with all of that time besides pirating games:
1. You get money to buy games legally 2. You use more of your time working, leaving less time for gaming: Thus, you don't have to spend as much time pirating OR gaming!
I post this in general, and not specifically at you...
I doubt that the space is all that the users care about. I was quite content with 5 megs of space until the spam-bots got a hold of my Yahoo account.
No, the real deal is archiving all of your old email and the ability to search through it all, as well as targeted advertising... I detest picture-advertising... most kinds, that is. pr0n's another story.
One of the other factors that makes the service so appealing to me is I trust Google, unlike Microsoft or Yahoo, to not sell my email address. When the company who gave you the email address is handing it out to the spammers (or spamming the box themselves), something is wrong.
I have the same problem. Right after installing SP2 for the first time, my internet lagged so bad I had to reinstall Windows Xp. Worked better after that.
I had one p2p program installed, and I had done a thorough scan for spyware before installing SP2. No go.
