    oh la la!
    French scientists are not allowed to write publications in any language other than French
    First, I worked for a French scientific institute last year (I am French), and I wrote some publications in English (proof here).
    Moreover, I read an article 2 days ago saying that, in France, a lot of mathematical publications are writting in French and in the other scientific domains in English... No law here!

    Wrong. French government has no power over the langage... It's the "Academie Française" which is supposed to tell how to spell words, and which words are French. The government wants its administration to speak French, and so wants it to use the word "courriel" which was declared French by the Academie Française - so it's logical. What would be your reaction if the American government doesn't want its administration to speak English?
    I had to say that the Academie Française is sometimes not really well understood by a lot of French people (me included)...

    yes, but if you look at the chart given when clicking on the text "FireFox 1.0" in the tables (sorry, no link), you can see that strangely the official Firefox version is often faster than the Moox version (which is supposed to be the optimized build). Can someone explain me why?

    Unfortunatelly, a lot of genius guys are in the same case: the man who discovered aspartame (Schlatter), the man who invented Tetris (Pazhitnov, never patented it because at the time intellectual property rights were not established in then communist Russia for private individuals...). I do think that in this case, patents are usefull because they can be seen as a reward for the usefull and good job done.

    implements a completely new 3D pipeline which executes the traditional Direct3D Fixed Function rendering path using dynamically generated OpenGL vertex programs

    I was sure this would exist one day... So now OpenGL and DirectX can render pictures in the same way.

    But what about the "render to texture" function, which is really really easy to do and fast in DirectX, and so painfull and so slow with OpenGL and X-window?

    They say if your game needs extra hardware (like vr glasses) then you need to supply it, but they don't say if the game is to be run on a Windows machine, or an OSX machine, or anything

    Oh! You don't get it! For example, if your game need to be run on a Pentium computer with Windows , you have to supply it :D!

    These guys are genius : 200 entries = 10k$ + 200 computers!!! Why didn't I think about that before ? :D

    can he ship both licenses in a software product's tarball and consider both licenses equivalent in terms of rights they grant, in each country?

    The day the GPL will be translated and adapted for all the countries, will we have to add a 50Mb text containing all this licenses in each software product's tarball ??? I think soureforge will explode!

    I had the same idea a few months ago, and faced the same problem. however we can hope that the future "PCI express" will help to reduce this fetching time, as it seems - however, the price of this kind of cards will surely be at first time very expensive... I prefer investing into a good CPU :)

    It's already done ...

    I am a French student in a computer science high school; there, some students are paid by Microsoft in order to distribute "free" versions of their products (Office, Windows, etc...) to other students (they call that "Le club technologie Microsoft").

    Of course, you legally can't do anything with this softwares unless it has to do with your studies (no winamp!), but this isn't really said to you. Moreover, Microsoft collects names and data about people taking this products....

    Instead of selling email addresses for a uninteresting price ($29.99 for 100,000 email addresses!), propose people to delete their addresses from your listing for only $1/email.
