    There is some controversy here ...

    How is the middle man going to pay for that patent portfolio, which is 100 times less the size of that of a companies portfolio with money?

    Same with lawsuits, to win one you'll have to have the money first.. Have more money, more chance to win!

    In which way is this contributing to the middle man?

    Same with SABAM, STEMRA and other organizations (alike HFA) dealing with musical IP rights; you have to sign away YOUR NAME for all future productions to be property of the record industry cartel. Even if you create free music while being registered at that agency; that free music will be charged for by the industry, even making you unable to create CD's with that free music without an authorization... Artistic artificial limitation at it's best...

    I've got the distinct idea IP is only for those who can pay it/who get most from it...

    .. What you people often forget is what they need to DO with it; or are you too materialistic only looking at what one can build and not do with it?
    .. They were first years, give them a break
    .. They also found out how to calibrate in with the ISS, with that material
    .. They learned how to work with it, succesfully!

    Why not give them a break? When I was able to fix my first TV, I was HAPPY! Because I could do it!

    You didn't really need to expect I'd be assembling it from zero!

    I've learned things are also good outside our hacker/creating-mentality ...

    I've stopped programming in DOS just because of that Win32 API!

    Once all that windows cr*p came out, I've stopped programming ASM & TP (BP) .. No kidding ..
    I've moved writing bbs-door applications for Proboard & Remote Access and swiftly moved to Perl for web applications.

    I guess I've always loved the text more than the icons ;)

    I've been seeing a shift between teachers and students the last few years I've been in my 4th-6th degree watching spines being ripped out by fear ...
    And literally students *and* teachers getting crazy.. It's not the first time I've seen a metal closet flying through the air from the 2nd floor...

    Where are the limits? For both student *and* teacher when everyone thinks to be right ? ..

    Had the same experiences with Seagate; they failed swapping their harddrives with FIXED versions.

    To my opinion, such should not be allowed to sell bad, malfunctioning products.

    Know your product is faulty? Why the heck release refurbs? Ain't these companies CARING about DATA STORAGE or only caring about the paper wads...

    End result .. company gets sale .. customer gets screwed over and over...

    Do mind flash can fail too; while a disk could loose a bit of it's information or crash far out; memory can also get corrupted and bad after writing a couple of hunderd-thousand times. For an industrial machine this could be important; unless working with solid state raids which might drop the speed a bit.

    I've had CF cards fail after a time; while a disk was reoverable almost all the times; this solid state memory was a hell to recover any of my data...

    Raids were a good way to go with disks; there are plentoria of cards available allowing raid between 2/3 solid state devices... maybe the new future?

    The problem is BIOS no detect after a few months of usage (typically 3 months)

    I've got some other Maxtor, Quantum and Seagate drives having the exact same problem, not being able to be detected while the data is intact on the disk.
    These disks are years old; which would mean this bug is still being fixed?

    Until today, Segate denied there is problem with SD15 1TB drive. SD15 is still the newest firmware.

    Same with those disks, they never knew anything .. nothing is wrong .. it's always the hardware of the customer ;)
    These problems are so adjadent with the problems I've already had years ago; what gives?

    Had the same results with a batch of Samsung drives; received a box of 15 whereof 6 died short after...

    Only had 2 Western Digital disks and 3 IBM disks crashed in my life .. and I've really had many of these brands the last 15 years!

    I once had the hint to watch the manufacturer dates ; if the dates are in the holiday period June-August the batch could be more buggy/failing than a batch outside the holiday stocks... I don't know if this hint is true but I sure regard all manufacturers dates from now on...

    Do something illegal? Don't get caught!

    How is drugs even remotely comparable to food or handicapped people?
    Drugs is a choice; being handicapped and (often) having no food isn't!

    Even when the choice can be difficult to get rid of, it's still a choice where you can change your life.
    Try that without arms or legs.
