  3. Any Opensource-anti-spam solution available? on Tracking Spam to the Source · · Score: 1

The idea could be simple. Mail that arrives gets checked with a whitelist, a blacklist and a spamlist.

    The whitelist:

People send A email to you, they get a email back to "REPLY" on that mail to get the mail sent to you and to be added to the whitelist. If they do not send this reply within 2 weeks the mail gets deposited to a "trash account" or gets a "X-list: not authorized" in it's header to be filtered to oblivion.

    The blacklist:

Very simple, people on the blacklist get sent to /dev/null.

    The spamlist:

These are the addresses being added automatically by the administrator. These emails get sent to /dev/null. The list could be interchangable (alike MAPS, RBL, ...)

That should already clear up a-lot!

Something else (what I have not found yet) that can be used is a system:

    • John Doe sends e-mail,
      • He is on my whitelist
      • -> Send email to my email box

      • He is on my blacklist
      • -> Send a reject mail or do nothing (according type of rejection on the list)

      • He is not on my list yet
      • -> Send mail where reply is needed (reply code in subject, body and header)
      • -> If code is received the email address gets on the white list or authorized list
      • -> If the code is not received delete mail or put as "SPAM" or unverified mail.

  22. Fans fans and fans! on Home Server Rooms? · · Score: 1

I have a very small room with 5 servers in a rack.

The servers are in alu-towers with system coolers, hard drive coolers and a front cooler. They are easy removable by just moving them forward. The cables are long enough to move the servers forwards.

There are 2 fans behind the servers that take the airflow away from behind the rack. I also mounted a fan that takes all the air from the ceiling out to a shaft and takes fresh air to the ground.

This helps for about 10 degrees celsius.

Aluminium cases help a lot, taking the airflow from behind the cases helps and conditioning the room by having a constant airflow also helps -a lot-.

To cool down the sysadmin you just use a tablefan or put one on the wall, and you are off running.

To get rid of the cables I have used tubes for every server. This way it's easy to change or to do maintenance on the server. The fans need to be cleaned regularly or they get stuck very fast.

Actually the best way is to put a airco in the room, though since I do not have the room to put one...

I live in Europe, the only SPAM I receive is from the US. I have 5 accounts (personal and business accounts) where I get +/- 140 to 200 spam messages. Most of these messages are "US deals only".

They should stop harvesting-email addresses as first, secondly SPAM should be something the end-user needs to decide about. I did not give permission to use my email address and send up to 200 messages to my accounts!

It's not the spammer that pays the price, but the end-user who can't get out of the list.

Often there are also "remove me" lines. It has came to my attention that they did not remove me though that it subscribed me to even more spamlists!

Is it that difficult to just have "Regulated spam-lists" ? no intrusion? I wouldn't like a guy knocking down my front-door announcing that I need a penis-enlargement or ADSL (that's only offered in the US and NOT in the EU anyway).

I neither need spam shoved down my throat like that, I don't even like the real SPAM!
