    Many safes have holes. You can then have employees put money in the safe while not having the ability to get the money back out if someone holds the place up.

    Unfortunately, the person who weighed the security risks and benefits of connecting to the internet probably didn't understand security or the internet. In the modern world, anyone who has the authority to make decisions (spend money) doesn't have technical knowledge, anyone with technical knowledge will not get into management. Yeah, there are exceptions, like when technical people start their own business.

    Text has advantages when you *can't* just make a call. Like when reception is sketchy, or when the person doesn't have voicemail, or is in a noisy environment, or if the other guy is driving and can't write address or other details down, or the other guy is engaged, or when the other guy is likely to be asleep, or the other guy is at work and can't take personal calls.

    I find I can rarely 'just make a call'. Well, I can *make* the call, but it won't be picked up.

    At least, that is what authority has been telling me these last several decades.

    I didn't read the fine article, but if the juror had only heard the prosecution's case and not yet heard the defence, then she SHOULD have thought the accused was guilty. That is what the prosecution is for, surely? The prosecution do their best to convince you of guilt, the defence attempts to convince you of innocence (or at least discredit the prosecution).

    Okay, the juror is a dumbass for tweeting about the case.
