Yes, bad customer service etc. But for fracks sake, relax. If you don't get your phone within no time at all, so what? Phones will only make your life more hectic. Go look at some nice flowers instead. Go out to the countryside and meet some nice horses! Have a nice cup of tea with your neighbour! Relax. Your post makes me feel happy about quitting my job so that I get more time to relax and do stuff I want to do, but at the same time I feel really bad about people like you who are obvously suffering from the 0-day lifestyle.

In my experience (I work for a large webhost), osCommerce and Joomla/Mambo (and most of their stupid useless 3rd party components) are far worse than phpBB. The biggest problem for (old versions of) phpBB is that it's an easy target for spambots.
I live a few hundred meters from his home, and was woken up that day, not by my useless alarm clock, but by sirens from 7 or 8 police cars heading in the direction of his apartment. From the TFA it seems like the were a bit more discreet when moving in on him, so I guess this was some kind of show of force to intimidate him, and his neighbours. Wouldn't surprise me, considering how the TPB-raid was done.
Most Dutch people speak better English than Dutch (at least according to other Dutch people in neighbouring provinces with a slightly different dialect). I've lived in The Netherlands and I have a Dutch girlfriend since 4 years back, but I can't speak any Dutch - no point in trying since everybody is fluent in English.

I have little doubt the parent's organization was such a spam source and did not properly address the issue. They deserved it.
And what are you basing this belief on?
As long as a site addresses the spam problem and gets results, reads their abuse mail and acts like a good net neighbor I have no problems with them. They should be delisted as soon as possible.
Right. I work for a big webhost, which is blacklisted by SORBS from time to time. The problem is that they do not send abuse reports. (I handle abuse@mycompany and I do not miss or ignore one any mails). They blacklist, and expect you to pay....Which makes me think they're interested in the money, not preventing spam.
Contrast that to, for example, Spamcop who sends mails that clearly states what it's about, a copy of the mail headers and a nice link where you can let them know what's been done (such as shutting down the spammers account).
Charlie makes a clear-headed and unarguable case, so far as I can see, that it ain't gonna happen without a 'magic wand' or two
So, what's the problem? Science has given us dozens of "magic wands" the last century, why would it stop now? In 50 years will will probably have lots of amazing thingamajings that we can't even begin to imagine now, like perhaps some StarTrekish warp-drive.
Perhaps we should all be able to walk around naked? How about sex in public?
Uh, sure - if you feel like it. Who's stopping you? You might get stared at, but that's about it (unless you live in some country where religion is still widespread, such as the one being discussed here. So yes, the question is rhetorical).
But why would you want to? Clothes has been used since paleoliticum, not for moral reasons but for practical ones. As for sex, unless you happen to be exhibitionist, why would you want to have sex in public?
old Commodore Plus/4's with cracker crumbs in the keys
Aaaargh! A Commodore Plus/4 should not be thrown away/recycled. I would pay up to $100 for a Plus/4 depending on condition and serial numhber, and it's irrelevant if it's filled with cracked crumbs or not.
This is like saying "Oh, I'll just get rid of these 2000-year old Roman coins, they can't be used in the store anymore."
If you have some old 70's or 80's (or "exotic" 90's) hardware in the wardrobe, please please please don't get rid of it before first spending 5 minutes on google to see if there might be collectors that are looking for *your* wardrobe-"junk".
I'll lie sleepless tonight, thinking about morons who might throw away their old Commodore C65 or Commodore MAX without having any idea how invaluable they are. Even common things like a C64C are still in demand, although you won't get that much for it.
If we can count them, why can't we shut them down?
We can, and we do - but it doesn't help much. I work for a fairly large webhost, and shut down 10-15 phishing sites per day. Next day there are 10-15 new ones, thanks to morons who are using outdated CMS'es/phpBB's or just people who have no idea what they're doing and gets their index.php injected.
> Video phones in North America usually refers full duplex video conferencing.
The definition is the same here (Sweden). It's been at least 2 years since I saw new mobile (cell-)phones without full duplex video conferencing (in other words, since 3G became the new standard), and it's usually at no charge if it's within the same network.
Huh? Even if you mean MB and not Mb, that sounds strange. What kind of computer do you have? Both my current one (which is fairly modern) and my old box (with some 6-year old HD I forgot the specs of) can handle downloads at about 12MB/s without any problem (on my 100Mb connection).
Communism hasn't been tried anywhere, unless you count isolated tribes in the Amazonas. Please don't confuse Communism with some kind of Socialism (which can be anything from Swedish democratic socialism of the 50's and 60's, to Stalins dicatorship). Communism in a Marxist sense is far ahead in the future, and for many communists just an ideal, if not science fiction (a communist party wants socialism, not communism).
(Chrustjev said in the 60's that the Soviet Union would be reached in 20-30 years... which would have been wildly optimistic even if the Soviet Union had been a democratic state and disregarding the cold war.)
It's Telia in Sweden, I've got a 100Mb connection with them. It's hard finding interesting stuff to download in full speed from single sources, but it's really convenient when downloading torrents from multiple seeders. Only problem is that I now have way too many TV-series to keep up with, and my fast connection means that I have to spend a lot of time keeping my FTP up to date, so that friends can download the latest 0-day stuff from me right after it's released.
Most of us (6%) are Red-green color blind. Unfortunately that doesn't prevent us from seeing pink (or red/green - Red-green color blindness doesn't really matter in real life. And yes, I can see both Red and Green despite the so-called Red-green color blindness).

Mod parent up.
It's so insightful that it hurts.

The "winning party" is a fake - there's girls in some of the pictures.
Can't be a real slashdot party.

Thanks for the heads up.
Obvously the article is written by a drooling moron. No need to waste time on this.
Working As Designed. This is Slashdot.
I didn't read TFA, but (from the summary):

TFA doesn't say, but I presume it's aimed towards (planet) Genesis?
I put a nice, thick Commodore sticker on my homebuilt 64-bit desktop.
It's just as much "Commodore" as these machines. Perhaps even more so, since I've also got a real C-1541 connected to it.

Yes, but the URI-with-malicious-code is usually something like: http://www.geocities.com/xxxxxxx/xxx.txt
At least that's what I usually see every time I check the logs of a website I'm going to shut down for allowing foreign includes (to be run).
No, you're thinking of: load"$",8
Load"*",8,1 will load the first file on a disk.

Don't worry, I'm sure it will take less than 2 days before it's posted again.

Sigh. Life is hard.
Don't need Internet2 for that. I love those 11-12MB/s torrent-downloads I get through the perfectly usable internet.
