Some theories suggest that dinosaurs became extinct not due to a giant asteroid impact but due to magnetic poles displacement.

And I'd be glad to hear the craziest thoughts on this issue.

Maybe you call Linux games what LGP ports from Windows to Linux (old and quite simple games)? Please, wake me up when I can play native Sim2/3, Crysis(Warhead/FarCry2), World of Warcraft, Medal of Honor, Need For Speed, etc. Or maybe you think that KReversi can make Linux popular amongst hardcore gamers?

No one is arguing whether Vista is stable or not, Windows NT kernel has been rock solid for over decade (with only buggy drivers or hardware as an exception) the problem is that Vista introduces clunky UI, where most obvious options are often removed (like "UP" level button in Windows Explorer), some features which used to be grouped nicely in Windows 2k/XP, all now sit in different places with changed, often not-so-obvious names.

Other not so minor issues are:

    • constant disk thrashing and vastly decreased laptops' battery life
    • greatly increased memory consumption (1GB just to run the core OS)
    • No VLK version (yes, that's very important for some users)
    • Still (after SP1 applied) very slow at some basic operations like files deletion
    • (Old) software (in)compatibility
    • Insane number of product editions which drive customers mad

  12. XP was quite a different story on Microsoft Vista, IE7 Banned By U.S. DOT · · Score: 0

If I remember correctly there were no such talks when Windows XP first came out. And you know why: Windows XP was generally compatible with all Windows 2000 software, most 2000 hardware drivers were compatible with XP.

In terms of compatibility XP was much easier to upgrade and that's why most businesses shun Vista.

Vista imposes too high demands on PCs (most corporate PCs have only 256 or 512MB of RAM these days) and lacks a way too many drivers. Not to mention hundreds of software titles which don't work nicely on Vista.

    From the wikipedia article:

    Acute toxoplasmosis

During acute toxoplasmosis, symptoms are often flu-like: swollen lymph nodes, or muscle aches and pains that last for a month or more. Rarely, a patient with a fully functioning immune system may develop eye damage from toxoplasmosis. Young children and immunocompromised patients, such as those with HIV/AIDS, those taking certain types of chemotherapy, or those who have recently received an organ transplant, may develop severe toxoplasmosis. This can cause damage to the brain or the eyes. Only a small percentage of infected newborns have serious eye or brain damage at birth.

    Treatment

The vast majority of patients with a normal immune system require no treatment.

Patients with HIV/AIDS or patients who are immunosuppressed should be given sulfadiazine and pyrimethamine. Pregnant women who become ill with acute toxoplasmosis should be treated with spiramycin. Folinic acid (leucovorin) is administered in all cases to reduce the bone marrow suppression caused by pyrimethamine (ref: Montoya JG, Liesenfeld O. Toxoplasmosis. Lancet. 2004 Jun 12;363(9425):1965-76. )

    Latent toxoplasmosis

Most patients who become infected with Toxoplasma gondii and develop toxoplasmosis do not know it. In most non-immunodeficient patients, the infection enters a latent phase, during which only bradyzoites are present, forming cysts in nervous and muscle tissue. Most infants who are infected while in the womb have no symptoms at birth but may develop symptoms later in life.

    Treatment

The cysts are immune to the standard acute treatments as the antibiotics do not reach the bradyzoites in sufficient concentration.

The antibiotic atovaquone has been used to kill Toxoplasma cysts in situ in AIDS patients.[3] In mice, a combination of atovaquone with clindamycin seemed to optimally kill cysts.
