..."My opion [sic] is Open Office doesn't yet touch MS pro office, especially Power Point."
Now I do like OpenOffice 1.9.x/2.0 and it is much improved, however, Excel vs. Calc is where I see this as simply no contest in favor of Excel.
For the average user Calc may be just fine, but in an organization that has many data analysts [as am I], Excel will simply become much more productive and actually does much of the data analysis faster - especially with larger data sets. I would love for OpenOffice to mature enough to beat out any Microsoft product, but this area will need more time and effort to match Excel. However, for the average home user, OpenOffice is great!
You can stuff 4 U320 drives into a Sun W2100z (dual Opteron) or a total of 5 if you use the vacant 5-1/4 drive bay.
I own a W2100z and it just plain smokes anything else I've seen in the category. Granted it is designed as a workstation, but the build quality is the best I've ever seen.
And Beer and LCD monitors don't mix too well either. A few years ago after spending $1,500 on a nice pair or large LCD monitors, you'd think someone might not be so clumsy [perhaps it really WAS the Beer's fault!] as to knock a full Corona towards and into one of your nice new LCDs. Due to that Corona bottle design and whatnot, I'd swear half the bottle ended up on my LCD.
Mind you, this is after a few beers already...I think to myself. "Oh well...why not?"
So I unplug my new Coronoa LCD, take it to the sink, and "flush" the beer out of the screen! Nothing stayed dry. After a few days of drying time, time to test. It worked great with only a very slight off color for blacks, and one button that was tricky to use.
Although I've used recent versions of QB and most FOSS alternatives, nothing quite comes close to QB for the majority of small businesses that need payroll, vendor lists, invoicing, checks, and other more esoteric features. I'd think there could be a market for an open source "QB killer" and this might be the final key missing for many small businesses to adopt open source systems. One of QB's best strengths is that many CPA's and tax accountants can take a straight QB file and do the businesses tax return - a feat not to be overlooked by alternative products.
I am absolutely not fan of Intuit at all and would love for someone else to simply make a better product in the same price range.
In addition, their chart showing RedHat's subscription sales decline could come from any number of things during that timeframe. My guess [hope] would be the uptake of Solaris 10 and/or the advancement of other completely free competitive enterprise Linux distros eating away at RedHat's growth.
"I would be glad to get rid of my Chevy Suburban - just as soon as someone can provide a vehicle capable of carrying the 6 children and 2 adults that I need to carry and that can navigate the 2 miles of gravel from my house to the hardtop after a good rain or snow!"
Have a look at the Toyota Sequoia. Great vehicle, and the A/C works superb!
Don't tell me, another search for WMDs [Windows Media Decoders]?
You can add regular productions grade Solaris to that list of "'free' Unix implementations", and I'm positive it would win the feature race.
Of course, the higher Solaris Admin's salaries can also be attributable to the fact that they should also be able to *do more* with their servers.
"...I am surprised Solaris was so high. Other than Sun's high licensing costs..."
Excuse me??? Do you realize that Solaris 10 is free?
Ads for Nerds. Stuff you'll never buy.
Imagine some idiot having ~500 minutes worth of ringtones!
At an already 600fpm and wanting to improve, am I the only on thinking that Wal-mart should have designed the Denver International Airport Baggage System?
For a cost of "$200-$800" and they couldn't even get it to cross-cut shred!
Nor does it run NetBSD. I've got this great toaster that....

Not to mention that anyone that would use the Sun Grid would even THNIK about running their simulations on equipment that doesn't use ECC memory!
No wonder Universities have no need for books anymore!

Next time, save the beer for the nachos!
"..then your fee is $1,000,000,000 per copy :-)"
That should read, "One Hundred Billion Dollars!"
Of course, I'm sure you might get a discount if you barter for some sharks with laser beams attached to their foreheads...
I'm just glad I am not a witch (I'm not made of wood).
But do you weigh the same as a duck, heretic?
"She's a Witch!"
"Buuuuuurrrrrrnnnnnnn Her!"
Every version of QuickBooks is crippled! 8^)

Now that would have been a good marketing name...
Is it just me, or does that button look like another biological button that most men already have trouble with? Especially nerds!
Disclaimer: Most of the nerds here probably don't even know what I'm referring to.
Sure..."state by state" so that nothing could effectively be enforced thereby rendering the entire idea largely useless.

...don't expect a 9 year old to pass this certification!
"Why would you pursue IT at this point in time?"
Especially when it's so easy a nine year old can do it!
