But interestingly especially with IMAP storing your e-mails in folders and subfolders can be a pain. Atleast on the win32 platform, very few clients render IMAP folder trees correctly.

My IMAP server structure has folders somewhat like this (folder.subfolder)

INBOX (effectively root and no mail can be stored here to my knowledge)
    INBOX.Inbox
    INBOX.Sent Items
INBOX.Archive (where I store old mail in subfolders)
    INBOX.Archive.Webcomics

Now take Opera 8 (released just the other day). It renders this structure totally incorrectly. The folder 'tree' shows this all in the same level:

    INBOX
    Inbox
    Archive
    Archive.Webcomics

Becky also suffers from this inability. Thunderbird my memory is a little fuzzy on (I don't like it) but last time I used it I don't think it displayed these folders correctly either.

Magogany is the client I use currently and it renders the folder tree perfectly.

Maybe I'm off base and we are supposed to be discussing POP3 only here but asking the every day joe to use a client to organize their mail when clients doesn't even show IMAP folders correctly is a joke. It's just frustrating.

I have no doubt many MS engineers are equally as brilliant as Google ones, but maybe they just aren't given the same level of creative freedom.

I'm too lazy to pull up the link just now but there was a story recently mentioning an ex-MS employee who was a bit peeved off I think at how long OS code was sat in the pot.

Of course it's all hypothesis and case-dependant. We don't get to hear much about the Microsoft work environment and so I think generally the average /.ers POV is biased.

I don't think anyone can say Microsoft are trying to hatch an evil plan to steal steal other companies success. If they want to keep up, it's logical that many skilled and experienced prospective employees are going to be from the opposition.

All they would have to do is have the downloadable content DRM'd on the fly to match your PVR box. Off course there are problems then with hardware failure or upgrades, and storage capacity.

I don't think watching movies on your PC or burning off DVD's is going to take off mainstream and it'll be a while before true any movie any time on-demand services are available in a fair manner.

Noones saying Scott isn't a good actor he just didn't suit the part from the offset...startrek captains have always been tough and responsibility bearing, with a wiff of wisedom about them..they lead the crew into the bold unknown. With this show all I kept seeing was him in Quantum Leap.

When I first watched Enterprise, I couldn't really relate to it as being a Startrek show at all.

Theme music, misguided choice of leading actor, blatant sex-pot from the offset, coupled with the doubt of a prequal ever working stunted the shows growth until it was easily crushed by the network overlords before it had time to prove itself to the majority.

This of course is 100% opinionated, but everyone I know said roughly the same. I personally believe some fans just forced themselves to like it for the sake of the franchise.
