Which didn't take very long. "Sure" "Ok yeah send that" Zzzzzz It's nice just because a lot of people don't leave messages, and you can see how long ago someone called. And how often. Or maybe you're just too drunk to talk to your parents. That's a win, right there.

Nintendo was, primarily, concerned with piracy. They could guarentee their developers that their games would not be copied.

Of course, copying games for the Playstation never, ever happened, so that's just a moot point I guess?

Their secondary concern, and main selling point to the public, was no loading screens. It was kinda nice to not have to wait 2 minutes between different areas. And those controllers were GREAT man, you just don't even know.. I swear most people must've used them wrong, they were pieces of art.

Personally if I ever had to wipe a HD out, and I mean OUT, I'd probably start out with the biggest magnetic fields I could possibly find, and I don't even know how big that might be. Maybe I'd make a van de graf machine and blast it a few times, though that would probably leave some info intact.

Honestly.. why take a gentle approach. Data is recoverable because the strongest 'push' is the first.. and each gets 'softer'.. very approximately. So don't keep using that same force.. whap it with an electrical charge like it's never seen before.

Honestly probably just a very very severe EM field would be enough. Make a giant motor or something, that you can slide the platters into.. or put them in as part of a big honking transformer..

I'd think, at least, that something extreme like that would be enough to rip anything useful apart, but you'd probably have an easier time of things just melting them.

Or honestly if you had a sledgehammer.. and a very hard surface, very hard.. hit it, a bbuuunch. hit it till the platters get too hot to touch, flip 'em, hit them some more.. i bet that'd be hellishly fun.

However it's measures like this that would drive me to rip&burn my way through anything i ever might want. Yes let's not even get into the fact that fingerprints change, and I've no faith in fingerprint scanners to begin with, and when you couple that with a cheap piece of crap stuck on to a portable player.. I'm sure it'll work just fine. Even after I wind up with a few new scars across my fingerpads, I'm SURE it won't accidentally lock me out of my own music! Which friggin hurts more than I care to describe, for days on end. I've had coffee from McDonald's. Even before that court case. It was, yes, mighty hot.. about the same temperature, in my opinion, as the coffee served everywhere else. Coffee makers at work, in diners, at local sporting events.. I make it cooler myself on account of the burning, but I don't expect the coffee everywhere else to be the same as mine when I turn the shit off right after it's done brewing. 140 degree coffee spilled into that old lady's lap still would have burnt her pretty badly. the only damages she should have been eligible for, if any, would have been the difference between what her pain and suffering and costs were with the 180 degree-coffee, and what they would have been had the coffee been 140 degrees. Not the full amount, as she would have still incurred pain and medical costs had the coffee been 140 degrees, apparently the standard enforcable temperature for coffee. Hope that's not too verbose.

Motorcylce helmet laws are being repealed left and right, because if you're on a cycle and wreck, and aren't wearing a helmet, you're the one in for a bad landing. You won't cause anyone else to be injured. At the same time seatbelt laws are becoming more strict, because if you're in a car and wreck.. OH WAIT. If you're in a car and wreck without a seatbelt, you're still the one that's fucked. The other guy won't get injured more or less, it's all you. By your logic we should outlaw alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, fatty and sugary foods, and probably even kitchen knives. That's not the sort of thing that we should be encouraging. Do what you want, just don't demand or expect help if you fuck your own self over. That's the American Way.

Even though many states are reforming motorcycle helmet laws, to allow them to choose not to wear a helmet.. taking their safety into their own hands. And somehow when you're 18 you're old enough to join the military and kill people, but not nearly old enough to drink a beer. Because that makes things. Because that makes sense. Because we 'grew up'. We actually have not grown up, but are now a much more childish, less educated, and less inquisitive bunch of people. Most laws passed aren't passed because they're useful, or because people need protected from other people. They're passed because it's a 'good idea', and 'something has to be done'. This is just another example of that.. if Google's going to have a huge direct-marketing database, it's going to be because people have chosen to be a part of it. I don't need that much email storage. If I got that much email I'd kill whoever was sending it -- I don't want to spend 6 goddamn hours reading a gigabyte of text. If you get that much mail, I'm sure it's better than using 9 email addys, if you don't mind the data collection.. bleh i hate the goddamned government telling me what I can and cannot do to myself. they need to go straight to hell before they pass legislation prohibiting anyone from going to hell of their own free will. because that make sense. California, New Jersey/Delaware/New York.. I'd say.. are the biggest offenders of such laws.. Any coincidence, they all kinda suck hard? ;p

Worked retail in a bookstore in a mall for a year. Absolutely the single most corrupt company I've ever had the displeasure to be associated with. First off I'll just throw out that they're tax cheats, first, in that about 1/2 to 2/3 of their inventory is never counted. It's moved around to avoid it ever being included in any inventory count ever. They own the warehouses and the distributors, for both the books and the magazines, and yes I think the book and magazine warehouses or seperate companies too. maybe it's the distributors that are seperate. So far as hours go, there was hour/week shuffling like mad if we did get overtime, there was hours being deleted off my paychecks (maybe 45min-1hr a week on a big week). There was a manager that worked about 18 hours a week. That manager eventually got canned. Replaced with a manager that worked 60 hours a week, but never did anything either, and slowed the rest of the employees down with his meddling. He also doubled our staff size while they cut our allowable hours. Home office had allotted our store about 8 hours fewer per week than it would take to keep two people in that store at all times. Which, oddly enough, is company policy to discourage theft (which, admittedly, was enormous anyway). I went from working 30hrs every week and affording rent and bills, to working 7 hours a week, quitting after a few months and moving away because I ran out of money. So did all the other employees. And they gave the store to yet another manager -- who was the previous assistant manager, who worked 40 hours a week but only spent 1/8 of her shifts on the floor and the rest reading and eating in the office, leaving one person alone in the front. In all situations. The problem with hiring lots of disposable employees is that you can cause NONE of them to be able to afford to work there anymore, and you completely destroy any accountability for managers/assistant managers. We, the other 4 employees, actually got that first manager killed. Because we worked together, talked about the problem, and went over her head because she was breaking policy like mad. Still took 6 months. But with 9 clerks, no one ever saw eachother, and when I told the manager that the asst. man. wasn't working, he said 'ok' and did nothing because she told him I wasn't doing anything. Oh yeah, and did I mention she later lied to other potential employers when they called to check out my applications? Told them I was fired for being late constantly. I quit, because they changed the schedule on me mid-week and didn't tell me about it -- I went from working a friday to working a thursay. No one told me about the change, I apparently was supposed to call up every day to make sure my schedule was the same it had been on Tuesday -- tho the finalized schedule was supposed to be posted by the start of sunday at the latest. Oh did I mention that 3/4 of all their books under $10 will actually ring up 10 cents to $1 higher than the marked price because most people don't notice? Hell's got a special corner in Hell for Bookland/Books-A-Million, and I'll be there to pee on them.
