  1. Gutless on Israeli ISPs Caught Interfering With P2P Traffic · · Score: 5, Insightful

How gutless of the ISP to not admit it. EVERY ISP outside of perhaps the USA and Europe does it. Bandwidth is just too expensive not to. Many ISP's in Australia denied it for years, until they were 'outed' by one honest ISP who told everyone up front what they were doing.

  2. Engineering Philosophy on What Happened To the Bay Bridge? · · Score: 1

The commonly held view of the group of friends I used to ride with many years ago was that the American engineering philosophy was, whenever a crack appeared, modify the design with more angle iron and more weld. It was how we explained the development of the Harley Davidson motorcycle.

  3. Re:shouldn't they be able to design the cable also on LaserMotive Finds Success In Space Elevator Competition · · Score: 1

Spider silk is strong enough isn't it? I understood something about 3-4 times the tensile strength of steel was needed, and some spider silk can be up the 10 times. Of course, that would lead to its own rather obvious problems. I for one welcome the rule of our new spider overlords. All praise the great one!

  4. Really? on Teenager Invents Cheap Solar Panel From Human Hair · · Score: 1

Come on, this is total BS from a rag paper with no editorial control. How can you guys even begin to think it is credible.

Well now I know what RAM and ROM is, thank you for adding that clarification. You see, I have been dead since the mid 70's and would not have otherwise known.

Don't they know? In the 70's it only cost $6M to build a whole bionic man. It has already been done!!!

  9. A Moment on An Australian Space Agency At Last? · · Score: 2, Funny

I suspect the heat in the atmosphere is caused by the Putonians burning the abundant methane to keep warm.

  11. A bogus test on Ubuntu Download Speeds Beat Windows XP's · · Score: 5, Insightful

Great, very scientific. Swap the OS on both machines and see if the results hold. Otherwise 'almost exactly the same' doesn't cut it. Do a real test - the way it is described here is bogus. It may excite the Linux fan boi's but no one else is going to take it seriously.

Jay effing Cee. If you don't like the practices of another sovereign state - which you US Americans have to realize, whether you like it or not, has every right to govern itself and make it's own laws - then DON'T buy their white goods and DON'T send all your manufacturing there. Easy. On the other hand, if you want good produced at a fraction of the cost that you seem to be able to do domestically, then just STFU! Effing hypocrites.

  13. 3 things on CAN-SPAM Act Turns 5 Today — What Went Wrong? · · Score: 1

Three things went 'wrong': 1. Moron sysadmins who allow their servers to act as relays or become exploited 2. Idiot end users with compromised systems 3. Unbelievably stupid people who respond, and buy, what the spam is advertising No legislation has ever overcome human stupidity.

How can this be rated 'insightful'? 'Made Up' or 'say whatever pops into my head without bothering to research anything' would be a much better rating. Mate, there are over 100 ISP's in Aus. Even the 'government' ISP is 50% public owned. Are you old enough to remember MCI? For a while in the 90's their unofficial motto was 'All ISP's suck, we suck less'.

  17. Directive Prime on Stephen Hawking Thinks Aliens Likely · · Score: 3, Funny

You're from the USA right? I think you mean 'disembarking'. Both de-baording and de-planing are not words. Yes, yes, I know everyone _understands_ what you mean. Just like everyone understands what is meant when a baby spits its food out. Understanding the intent of mangled English does not proper English grammar make. On the other hand, if you are using some other language, then I completely apologize.

If the airlines made the announcement "To improve loading times, we request all you rude a-holes who block the isles while taking minutes to stow your luggage and get yourself organized, board last", loading time would be cut in half. If course those self same rude a-holes are going to just ignore it, like they do common courtesy anyway.
