for months on end the poor lioness mother welped in vain - still believing the cubs to be alive but lost.

cruelty, selfishness, jealousy, revenge - are all inherent in many animal species - had they more intelligence they would do much worse.

its just that some self-righteous stinking pricks like the animal extremists we get in England believe humans to be inferior - and they have every right to terrorize anyone or relatives associated with animal experimentation.

First it must be fun for them.
Even if they hack something that many would deem useless - I can see it's their hobby. You can only excel more and more.

Now concerning WMV9 - many Linux fans would want people to give up their Windows. Then they are sent some proprietory file (unreadable) - and the nagging start again.

Now about DRM. Yeah it should be avoided at all costs. But I had a deadline and knew f** all about Actionscript. Having learnt (ages ago) C# from the LearnVisualStudio.NET series - I've visited a brother site that did Flash script and paid some $15? and download some vids to quickly learn my way into Flash MX/ActionScript (before the client found someone else more proficient in poop technologies).

And guess what - those bastard had the video DRMed! Now I don't know if Jon cracked DRM also (site's been /.) - but at the time it would have saved me much grief. Wine Windows Player will not play DRM video. Eventually I remember I had a Win4Lin demo in a disc.

When people go: "What is the point?" - As long as they are having fun - if they are hacking some code with good intent - it is bound to help someone somewhere someday :)

Airport Check-in Software failed (talk about a software which is over 30 years old).. DHSS Payment scheme also failed - bet they hired cowboys like "Anderson Consulting" .. oh pardon me "Accenture" (how damn queer)..

In America do you guys have so many deployment blunders one after the other?

Even the outsourcing fever - which crippled many companies here - these poor Brits copycats got it from you guys.

Next thing you want to teach them is how the IP law is ever so beneficial.

Our problem lies with the "Charlies" - you know those cocky arrogant/ignorant IT managers, that know sweet FA - bluffing crap - and the technophobe dumb-arses (instead of learning something for themselves) just take the bull.

Sadly the real good stuff and principles you've created (Posix/W3C/ANSI/Open Source ...)- they don't want to know (I guess its beyond Charlie's IQ).

So you are a *nix zealot? Strange, a while ago I would have sworn you've just condemned one of the *nixes to death.

Every so often I see those way-passed their sell-by-the date IT managers bluffing their way with crap, but departmental staff wouldn't know any better and so the poor things get impressed.
Usually its a Media company - funny that - why do they always hire fogeys? Weird trend.

This is Slashdot - not only most of the people here will obviously know what processor a Mac uses; but it's entire history since Motorola/IBM/Apple joined up and produced the first PPC prototype.

Don't be an idiot - mine was a genuine question.
Obviously you don't know the answer - nor did care to enumerate them.

Some people's interest in Linux goes beyond the iPods and glossy interface. Some Mac users tinkle with Linux - and vice versa. Of course I wouldn't expect that from you - you seem cerebrally challenged somewhat.

Linux will take the third world by storm, and governmental agencies. The other advantage of the OS is that you can refurbish very old PC - for schools, charity work or do what Google did in the beggining - form a cluster. Plus there is the hacking factor, learn about what an operating system entails, and play with embedded devices: mobile phones and gadgets.

I am not aware of any mobile phone or PDA running Mac OS.

Now about the "Linux days are numbered" - you mean your Apple is going to take over?
Even Corel pulled out of Apple. Kids can't get any games. I wouldn't say Apple will die (nor is my wish) - but be aware that
Linux your "enemy number 2" has taken over Apple in terms of world share.
