the interface on KDE starts off with anti-aliased font and ever-so-tiny. and unless you go through great lengths re-configuring (which I eventually got bored) - the whole feel remains clunky - short of being a "mosaic" 16-bit app running on twm.
and again you dont get that when opera runs on Windows - there the GUI feels extremely suave, well rendered.
sure both use the same QT engine - but looks like Opera spent more time tweaking the Windows version - than the Linux counterpart.
Take Vmware - now that is too a somewhat clunky application - but that shouldn't bother people as Vmware is more of a tool than an application so it needn't be "cosmetic".
I mean there is always Dillo if we want to go pretty clunky but extremely fast.
