Because of competition. It seems any species that ultimately ended up being the dominant one in a planet, managed so by killing, eating, enslaving or exterminating other species as part of the process. It is only our hope that technological advances means spiritual moral evolution - but that doesn't have to be necessarily so. How many times us human - supposed to be relatively advanced & civilized - still completely decimated other nations or races, or destroyed other habitats and brought other natural species to complete extinction?

    Rubbish.

When I went to see the film Batman, I was extremely impressed by the performance of the Joker and:

1- Had no idea who the actor was

2- Had no idea he had died.

Had anyone suggested he would win the Oscar - I would have replied: Great! Whoever that guy is - he is absolutely brilliant!

The other actors however paled before him. He did steal the show.

But the problem is that once he died, opinions got divided. People who haven't seen the film went to see it now with very critical pendantic eyes. Looking for - or imagining any - flaw. It's a bit like it's hard to have an unbiased jury if the accused has an article about him written in the press. Or finding a woman of another race attractive when you are racist. Or acknowledging Hitler's watercolours were incredibly beautiful

    So his acting was hyped.
Making it harder to be objective.

Heath is an actor's actor. If you ever trained yourself to be one, you would appreciate the incredible talent.

But if you try to find any fault - because of some emotional bias - well you will find many.

I have a feeling that most people that think his acting was over-rated or bad, would have a second more honest / sombre opinion had he: not been famous or dead.

I am scared of this DRM thing.
I hear so many bad things about GTA 4 because of DRM issues - I keep wondering if ALL games are DRM-locked as standard these days. I keep postponing investing on a new Gaming Machine.

Fear of purchasing is the worse feeling towards a business. It's worse than boycotting.

RIAA or Not - People do feel scared of buying a DVD movie or Audio CD. But with DRM people are feeling nervous about purchasing Games that end up messing with your PC.

  15. Re:Newsflash: on Chronicling the Failures of DRM · · Score: 1

Valve/Steam is nasty. I've purchased the Orange Box legit, to play on a Windows computer that was given to me. I've added the Orange Box games to PC previous owner's Steam account. Some games were there present, I thought of added a few more, in fact I was even left with 3 extra games I could "donate" (as they were also present). Played HL2 and Portal for a bit, had my fare share of fun, then stopped playing for 6 months. Then recently wanted to check out Team Fortress 2.

Now I don't know what happened, but it would refuse to log me in (cookies reset?). Now I can't contact the original owner of the PC. But I couldn't play any game (even the ones that were "surplus"). People told me I still could claim my original games as long as I contact Steam and scan a copy of my original receipt. As if I keep these things .. as if I have time also = easier to buy a new one, but that would be too wrong paying for a product twice.

Little or big annoyances like that is what makes people hate DRM so much and the industry that endorses it. People don't necessarily hate DRM because they are closet pirates. But because they often have to pay for a crime they have not committed. They are deemed guilty and untrustworthy before anything else. It's patronising and offensive - and yet many put up with that.

DRM will always count as a negative when deciding to buy software or games in future. I just can't put with the hassle anymore. I didn't know BioShock was DRM, so thanks for telling me, I won't be spending my money on that now.

    Nonsense.

"Play" is the most effective way of learning. Animals do it still when adults.

Which is why "roleplaying" and "similuations" are so widely used in the military. Even in Language Courses deals heavily with that, the reason being: it's a big business that is pressurized in delivering results fast. Play is the best strategy.

Take Science and Maths courses they are not so under pressure or well-funded (in most countries) hence "Play" does not take part - but dry old books and boring teachers instead. Unlike repeating again: Language Courses.

And the thing about being an adult is the ability to choose - if you happen to be an 4-eyed over-intellectualized alien creature sure - go and read the Principia Electronica @ 4000 words per sec. Breathe the dust from old Library basements.

It is not unwise to choose one's method of learning as long as one believe it is effective. Be it games, be it for 8 year old. That should be the thing about adulthood: choice .. however err ,, uhmm .. infantile :)

In the 1950's Adults would buy children book (LadyBird) to read or learn something quick about something. But for fear of embarrassment used to hide those educational series inside Adult Magazines.
