    I must say, my esteem for Apple as a company raises each time they communicate "normally" (i.e. without going through heavy PR filtering). So few companies do it nowadays...

    thats objective reporting and it tells pretty much everything that happened ... its me, the listener, who decides who's the barbarian, who's the patriot, the thug, the invader and so on.

    * The list of the "coalition of the willing" mentioned only tiny, irrelvant countries, and skipped over really important ones: England, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands.

    i haven't seen the movie so i have no ideea what coutries were mentioned ... but i'm definitely sure that he mentioned too many ... no oppinion poll, in any country except US & Britain for a very small period, ever showed support for bush ... he got support from some leaders, but no countries!

    as a matter of fact, bush was rated as a greater danger to the world peace than saddam in a lot of oppinion polls in many countries around the world ... and as others said it before me : how stupid do you have to be to lose a popularity contest against saddam?

    I was actually wanting to e-mail them all yesterday and give them a piece of my mind, but decided not to because they would probably turn me in to home land security.

    now, this is the REAL PROBLEM!

    your radio guys are entitled to an oppinion just like anyone else .. and you dont have to agree with everything they say .. but the moment you start to be afraid to tell your oppinion, its the beginning of all the ends that you dont wanna see!

    this thesis is only a better documented, nicely written replay of a japanese experiment from some years ago :
    the matsumoto experiment

    and it surely doesnt mean the biometrics are not secure!

    a complete biometrics based security solution has 3 "components" :

    Something you know: e.g. a password or a PIN.

    Something you hold: e.g. a credit card, a key, or a passport.

    Something you are (biometrics): e.g. a fingerprint, iris pattern, etc.

    their demonstration only fooled the 3-rd component of such a system ... which means they got NOTHING! ... plus, the most secure fingerprint scanners read the biometric info from under the epidermis(the outer "dead" skin) and are not so easily fooled with an artificial finger or fingertip ... the fact that they tested cheap of-the-shelf hardware is not exactly concludent.
    The whole study is just an argument against bad hardware and sloppy security systems, not against the usage of the biometrics .. while unfailible security does not exist, biometrics can make a big difference when used right!

    I can see the use in business and public presentations. But other than the few home cinema zealots with giant rooms set up like theaters...

    ... and of course, the world only needs 2-3 computers and everybody will be happy with 640KB ... slashdot is such a huge hit to my morale .. i mean, a community of supposedly smart people is told the same things again and again, at least once a week for many, many years .. but they still don't get it and make the same mistake again and again and again .. total bummer

    and btw mister coward, nobody needs GIANT rooms ... with a good projector one could easily have >100" images in a 15(fifteen) sq metre room ... i guess you touched a good projector just as much as you played with your imaginary 24"

    I just want to say that that is a VERY cool thing to do for the men and women who devote their lives to defending their countries. It's an often thankless job, and being away from loved ones with crappy communications makes it that much harder. Personally I think that the military needs to spend a little bit of cash on forward deployed servers so that things like that aren't needed. ....

    how comes that any post about us soldiers doing their jobs in a place which had no jobs for them is ALWAYS "ontopic" and "insightful" ?

    plus, on top of being -1000 offtopic, this post is plain STUPID - see the military secret response.
