Would unwelcomeware include those stupid "Sign up for AOL" icons that most software installs in addition to the actual software itself?
Seriously, I don't like when software installs its own icon on my desktop without asking. It really gets on my nerves when they install ads... after I paid for a piece of software. It's like commercials before a movie.
The problem is when companies provide products and/or services that compliment another companies products and/or services.
For example. What if a company offered training for all Microsoft products. Is it inappriopriate that if someone searchs for "Microsoft Office Training" that XYZ Training, Inc.'s ad appear?
Now obviously, selling a piece of software similar to Microsoft Office and using those trademarks for your own benefit is infringement. But shouldn't the normal trademark law cover those cases?
Boycott all CD/DVD/Tape purchases for a full year and listen to the good ol radio
Ummm... if you really want to boycott the music industry... you'll have to stop listening to the radio too. They do get paid each time a song is played.
Why is it that everyone thinks that Ctrl-Alt-Del has some special hardware interrupt, or something else that makes it magical?
The BIOS traps that combination (through the normal keyboard interrupt) and initiates a system reboot.
Problem is, if your OS isn't using the BIOS for keyboard input (pretty much every modern OS uses it's own keyboard handling code) then the OS determines what this key combination does.
In either case, it is software that determines what that key combination does.
Oh, I'm not blaming Ehrlich. At least he's dealing with the problem by reducing spending, not raising taxes. He's a good guy... I voted for him... and so far, I'm happy with the job he's doing.
This is just genius. I'm patting myself on the back as I write this.
Here's my idea of the century:
STOP SPENDING SO MUCH FUCKING MONEY!
Hear that Congress? Hear that fucking State of Maryland? The budget problems are YOUR FAULT. Not mine. If it wasn't for me and all the other taxpayers, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE ANY MONEY TO SPEND.
Ok. Calling sales tax a regressive tax is a load of crap. Yeah, if you look at a single purchase and compare that to the income of two individuals, the person with the higher income pays a smaller percentage of his income. However, the person with the higher income is likely to make more purchases than the other person and therefore end up paying more in sales tax than the other guy.
Plus, if you really want income tax instead of sales tax... you need to have your head examined.
With income tax, you are taxed before you even see the money. It doesn't matter what you intend to do with that money, it is taxed. Gone. You never see it. If there was no income tax (only sales and/or use taxes) you would have a choice. Buy product X or save that money for your child's college education. And you would get to do it before you are taxed. Think about how much better off everyone would be if they were given that opportunity to save. Instead you have take out loans for things like that and pay interest which is almost like being taxed.
This is the price we must pay for the mess the Iraqi war caused budget-wise.
I don't know but $400 billion for prescription drugs for seniors (who statistically have more disposable income than any other age group in the country) seems like a bigger waste of my money.
They are not overturning a ruling. They are simply passing a law granting the FTC power that the judge ruled they didn't have based on current laws.
And it's the Executive branch that "implements" or, more correctly, enforces the laws. The judicial branch interprets laws. In this case, their interpretation was the the FTC didn't posses the authority to create the do-not-call list.
I got an email the other day saying that I am part of the class that won the lawsuit. When I read the details I decided that I didn't want the $5... not because it's just a measly $5... but because the lawsuit is a joke.
I think the problem here is not violence in games or movies or televison shows. It's the fact that most of the time the violence is unrealistic. This gives kids (who presumably don't know any better) a false impression about the consequences of their actions should they minic what they see.
I agree and have been thinking about such a system for a really really long time. I just haven't worked all the kinks out of my design yet... but when I do, I'll start coding that bad-boy.
Am I the only one that hates terms like: "Big Tobacco", "Big Oil", "Big Caffeine"? It just sounds so stupid.

Of course someone will buy them. Once a judge rules that SCO owns Linux because of the IP violations, they will be getting a call from Microsoft.
And where do you think that money goes? To the copyright holders.
"But aren't the artists the copyright holders?," you ask.
No. The RIAA member companies are. At least most of the time anyway.
After reading this story, and all the comments, I've come to this conclusion:
Good programmers can write good/fast/efficient code in ANY language. Crappy programmers write crap/slow/inefficient code in EVERY language.
Boycott all CD/DVD/Tape purchases for a full year and listen to the good ol radio
Ummm... if you really want to boycott the music industry... you'll have to stop listening to the radio too. They do get paid each time a song is played.
Don't just buy it for that reason. SGI stuff is kick ass. Expensive... but you get what you pay for.
Why apologize? The rest of humanity didn't make that comment. Anyone with half a brain knows that most people are not racist.
There is a World Trade Center in Baltimore. Which is the world's tallest pentagonal building.
Right now it's closed for a month because of flooding caused by the hurricane.
There michael goes again... posting dumb stories.
In Soviet Russia... Dumb stories post MICHAEL!

Does it not amaze everyone that state and local governments are the only money-spenders who REFUSE to make do with less?
They are not the only ones... the federal government is even worse.
They are not overturning a ruling. They are simply passing a law granting the FTC power that the judge ruled they didn't have based on current laws.

"It allows them to escape from Microsoft's "forced upgrade" revenue generating business model"
Well, isn't paying $100/yr the same thing?
I got an email the other day saying that I am part of the class that won the lawsuit. When I read the details I decided that I didn't want the $5... not because it's just a measly $5... but because the lawsuit is a joke.
Personally, I just don't listen to music. But it certainly seems to me that the RIAA isn't making any friends.
Oh... so must be like that boring kid in the "Art: Ask for more." commercials.
I think the problem here is not violence in games or movies or televison shows. It's the fact that most of the time the violence is unrealistic. This gives kids (who presumably don't know any better) a false impression about the consequences of their actions should they minic what they see.
So let's have more realistic violence.

So, I don't see what the big deal is.
The big deal is that there's no good news to post... so michael posts crap all day long.
Dumb comments post michael!!!!
