"The star, named SGR 1806-20, spins once on its axis every 7.5 seconds, and it is surrounded by a magnetic field more powerful than any other object in the universe."
Looks like they buried the headline, the entire universe has been mapped and we now know the upper limit for a magnetic field...
You're right, we should apply this "centralized, standardized decision making" to other aspects of our lives as well. How about health care and agriculture for starters, then we can move on to employment and travel... oh wait that's all been tried huh. Oh well.
No, I'm saying its emulating a 1 Ghz PPC, or that's what it reports in the "About this Mac" system profiler...
I have a old 15" Powerbook with a 1 Ghz G4 and the notebook doesn't seem significantly faster but I haven't run any benchmarks or anything.
PearPC is limited, some report being unable to install Office X ( I haven't tried yet) and there's no direct CD drive support I'm aware of, but its only at version pre 0.3 so there's hope!
I live about 5 blocks from my office and put less than 4,000 mi/yr on my car. I have no problems with my insurer knowing where I drive if it would save me a considerable amount on my insurance. When I think about my car payment, insurance, and what gas I do buy, I'd love to reduce at least the insurance part more...
Privacy schmivacy... what have I got to hide?
Well, its not wall mounted (and not a Mac) but my ViewSonic airpanel is serving just this purpose right now.
Yes its the worlds most expensive remote control (prob not) but its fun to pass around at a party and let friends pick the music from the 90 gigs of mp3's available...
I had the newest type done about a year ago just days after it was approved here in the states.
Star Eximer Laser is what I think its called. Whole procedure took less than 8 min and I couldn't be happier with the results. No halos, perfect vision even at night. Best thing I ever spent my money on.
Don't go cheap though, you only have two eyes...

Whatever gave you the idea that your personal freedoms included the right to shine a laser at a passenger airplane? Moron.
Grow up.

...the press piece.

They had a bit of press yesterday as well. They don't have the fancy short code yet though.
OSX on PearPC zipps along nicely on my AMD64 3200. I'd say is comperable to Virtual PC 6 on my Powerbook G4.
Moralizing for others is evil.
I just canceled my Netflix via online yesterday - no waiting.
Yes, and we and our progeny hold our rightful place at the top of the chain...

It is... it's called PearPC. I set up OSX this weekend on an AMD64 3200+. It's PearPC is emulating a 1ghz G4 and I must say it's pretty sweet.
