Let me try to imagine that or a moment. I enter a store and they have what I ordered ready and waiting for me when I reach the checkout counter. I enter the library and the book I wanted at my last visit, which was already checked out by someone else, is automagically sent to the check out waiting for me to flash my library card (oh wait, I dont need a library card). I walk into McDonalds and I don't have to tell them to hold the pickles on my number 3. I sit at a computer terminal and all my defaults are preset, OSX, my inbox, my IM client etc... What a horrible existence, how can I prevent this...

I'm no defender of monopolies and telecom companies are the bottom of the barrel in my opinion, but lets be real here. Bell South doesn't compell you to take there service and won't/can't put you in jail for refusing it. The State can and will do both. And "free" municipal wireless isn't really "free" is it? It's paid for with tax payers dollers and if a given taxpayer doesn't see the value and wants to opt out what recourse do they have? I can think many more legitimate uses for the tax reciepts of New Oreleans than compelling citizens to pay for WiFi.

Despite the longings of some, this isn't a socialist nation and the (hopefully) vast majority of us don't wish to see it become one. Federal and State governments shoud not compete with/undermine private industry. Internet access is not a right nor is it a utility or a necessity. The State has no interest in provisioning the service. and should be dissuaded from doing so.

  10. PGR3 crashed for me; but it wasn't from heat on Xbox 360 Very Unstable · · Score: 1

My 360 was on for about 15 hours straight playing 6 different titles for several hours each and the only one to crash was PGR3. It was the second game we played so it was perhaps 5 hours into the life of the unit. Aside from the power cycle required to clear that crash the system ran fine. I'd say the problem was caused by a buggy PGR3 not heat. But what do I know?

Let me rephrase. The over-the-air interface of Code Division Multiple Access is better than the Global System for Mobile Communications over-the-air interface which uses Time Division Multiple Access as a standard. CDMA, in all its flavors, is more spectrum efficient and spectrum cost money. Thus, CDMA is better than GSM. If this were not the case then all the European carriers would not be rushing to replace the current GSM standard with a new standard based on WCDMA. Personally, I use a GSM phone because I like having a SIM.
