    well .. thats because, microsoft has grabbed way more than its share. they should just be making good crossplatform IDE, officeware, and mouse and keyboard. Not desktop windoze (leave it to apple) not windows server (leave it to BSD or linux) .. so on and on.

    Not true. Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has both IE and Netscape (4.5 I think). Our school library has netscape 4 or 6 installed too. But, they all look like sitting their out of some dumb ass' sympathy for Netscape that to provide a better browsing experience.

    but, they use the public internet. So, basically the user is paying the higher landline cost for the lower phone-over-public-internet quality.

    i found out the sysads' personal a/c password .. skg skg123 :P i had a friend who modified lynx source code and put it in /usr/local/bin and when the sysad ran it, my friend got a suid executable file in a 'hidden place' :D

    yes .. he did something wrong (how the definition has changed over time!). he got his punishment (he earned it). fact remains that he is opened the eyes of many people. Listen to his interview .. you'd know what he knows about 'the stuff'. That fact alone makes him admirable .. no matter what.

    If they can't do their business on internet, UPS customers would rather call UPS up to track or schedule a pickup than go to fedex. Same with banks. It'll make them a little unhappy, but, they will do business, because it can be done. Indeed, MS monopoly is more creepy than you imagine.

    I agree with the parents. Not only would I pay for the software I find useful, I can go a step further and recommend the right person to by a site license once in a while. I am sure I am not the only one. But, for people to be willing to do that you need there good will. And you won't get it by whining. The amount of sale generated in this manner might out number the so called 'lost sale' because in a situation where one can influence a decision maker .. hundreds of people who would have never heard about the product get factor in the sale.

    this solution is too simplistic. when a 'rogue' nation defies, not everyone in that nation agree with the nation's policy. there are all kinds of people in a so called 'rogue' nation. all of them are not spammers. if you are willing to not get mails from those non-spammers, if you are willing to put all of them into the same basket - very well.

    i have had a hotmail account for 3-4 years .. and i haven't received any spam .. unbelievable ? may be because my id is rather long (16chars@hotmail.com) so .. auto address generators are yet to catch it.
