  1. Stop speculating. on Another Google Tool To Take On PayPal? · · Score: 3, Insightful

What's with all the speculation about what google is going to do next? So they own a few domains... they've had gbrowser.com for like a year now... it means squat.

If you were a company with lots of money in the bank, wouldn't you register domain names for 10 bucks a pop that have your name in them, to prevent squatters and to keep your options open? I'm sure google has hundreds of domains, and not all of them will turn out to be new google ideas at all...

The efficiency may be close to 100%, but that's not what's cool. What would be cool is a method that uses close to 100% of available energy, AND does it really fast.

That's cool. Its like the difference between a car with a v6 and one with a v8. Both might use the same percentage of the energy available to them, but the v8 is obviously faster and more powerful.

  20. NASA on Commission Says NASA Failed on Shuttle Safety · · Score: 5, Insightful

I think NASA takes way too much crap.

Think about how horrible underfunded everything is, and that they are still sending people up into space in a vehicle built in the 80s. They were underfunded at the time, and made do with what they had, and that's what they have to do now.

Because its so technically difficult, it takes money to solve, and money is pouring elsewhere instead of into making it safer (Iraq, SS, etc...). Space exploration has taken sort of a backseat here.

Nasa still has an exemplary record. Only 2 crashes in 20 years. I have no idea how many missions that is, but it's not a few. If you want the people we send up to be safe, give NASA some money, and stop whining about how unsafe it is.

    1) They won't be publicly available for a while yet 2) They don't use all available power from the instant the system is put out. Differences in speeds will really only become apparent when the higher end games start coming out towards the End of Life of the system, since they've been working on it for the life of the system. That's why the X-Box suddenly leapt ahead fairly recently. The PSII hit its stride before the X-box did. That's when the spec sheets will matter. And anybody who really cares will have both. 3) Sometimes, power isn't everything, if you can't use it. It becomes exponentially harder to squeeze more power the closer you come to the limits of the chip/computer/whatever. That's why new consoles generally come out before they have been completely drained and make it easier to make better games.
