After thinking about this a bit more, I came to the conclusion that...the children hit a doll.
The video game shows people killing each other, except these guys look nothing like real people. Anyone with half a brain can tell the difference, and if you can't, then isn't killing someone in a game just as bad? (In their mind, of course)
Therefore I would have to say that if I saw a violent video game being played, I might imitate the actions only while I was actually in the game, or on something that looked reasonably like what I saw in the game.
That also leads to the idea that violent videos are much worse than games, a point that was made above, since they depict actual humans committing acts of violence.
Banduras is one area of psychology, more tied into the learning perspective.
My idea come from Freudian psychology, which is what we are studying right now. It just depends on who you believe...which is, I guess, the whole root of this matter.
But thank you for pointing that out, I hadn't considered that.
Basic psychology would also suggest that violent video games can prevent violent crimes, by giving kids an outlet for their aggression and anger. The silicon chip doesn't care if you call it a name....
Lawmakers should go back to doing stuff like worrying about the war or something.
What if the MPAA turns to you and says you can't invite people over to your home and watch a movie because it infringes on their copyrights? Will you simply bow down and say "okay...".
No...I'd protest it vehemently, and so would millions of other Americans. But as long as it was against the law, I wouldn't actually do it.
It annoys me to no end how people in todays world use "human rights" and "privacy rights" to try and defend their actions. If you did something wrong, broke the law, why should the law bother to protect you? It's give and take.
The owners of this site were hiding behind the thin legal background that "We are just providing these torrents as a service. Please don't do illegal things with them."(at least I assume they were like most torrent sites in this) It doesn't work that way. I doubt that even 5 percent of downloads from torrent sites are done legally, or to obtain freeware/shareware/demo files.
I have no love for the MPAA, but if you break the law, you break the law. Don't like it? Write your congressman a letter, e-mail your representative, sign a petition. You CAN still use those rights to try and achieve your goal.
If these people were smart enough to know where the bugs were, why waste 4 years of time just to prove that "Linux is less buggy than Windows"
It seems to me that they could have put these four years to better use FIXING the bugs as well as finding them, or just writing new code, or SOMETHING.
Aren't all of Microsoft's lawyer's busy fending off other lawsuits? Where are they going to find time to keep the company out of court AND sue spammers?
Easy enough to build one....
Take an AC adaptor that has either adjustable voltage, or is the same voltage as the batteries used.
Snip the tube that usually connects to the device off, and strip the isulation off. You should then have 2 bare wires. Just hook these up, positive and negative, to the terminals on the device
If it takes more than one battery, its a bit more complicated, and involves wires between each of the terminals. If you do some research on how placement of batteries etc... affects voltage and amps, you smart people should be able to figure it out.
Did anybody think that maybe we already HAVE lightbulbs that last forever? All the lightbulb companies would go out of business if everybody bought just enough and then stopped buying them. Not that there wouldn't be a market, for new homes, etc..., but the market would decrease greatly
Also, is it possible that the lightbulb manufacturers would buy this technology from the inventor, and just not release it, so that they can continue to make money?
If its something you enjoy, can do for hours, get paid reasonably well, and there is a demand for that kind of entertainment, that that is all that is needed to make a profession out of it. How do you think sports came to be professional fields?
Yes, I agree. What really bugs me is that if my ethernet connection isn't currently activated it takes several minutes before it gives it a [failed] and moves on. O.o
Well, firefox started somewhere...they had .5% of the market share at one time. Perhaps Netscape hopes to break back in?
Please tell me that was a joke...obviously some /.ers think that this was "Insightful"

IE Firefox Theme
You can also get older themes to work with newer versions somehow, but I can't remember, I think there was an article on it on i-hacked.com
A week or two doesn't make THAT much difference when we are talking about stuff that is months or even years in the future.
It only rained 360 last year. I counted. (It snowed the other 5.) And you can go waterskiing in downtown Salem sometimes, that's always fun.

No, you just want to keep all that warez. :P

Hmmm, its getting to the point now where the first post on any given slashdot story is automatically modded -1.
I mean that it may be possible that all people who warez are kids, but NOT all kids warez.
And for the last time! Warez may = Kid, but Kid does not always mean Warez.
Damn generalizers.
I'm 16, and as much as I would LIKE to get stuff for free...I don't. (And I could, believe me. And I'm not talking about Kazaa either)
This is a generalization, and as such, offensive. I buy ALL of my games.
A recently released statement by the US government. "Ahem...well...we uh....HELL! We forgot to plug it in, OK!?"

"Mozilla.org has quietly released Thunderbird 1.0 RC1" How is it "quiet" if its been /.ed?

I hope they use CGI to make this movie, if it ever comes out. I'd like to see how much its improved since Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Also, if you aren't sure, just press a couple F buttons. F3 works on a few of mine. :-)

Ya, this is a very good game. The graphics are quite good, actually, if your computer is good enough.
