    Texas has 22.5 Million people, I hardly think that supplying BPL to an area with only 2 Million people is that big of a deal. Unless they roll this out in the middle of no-where they can probably only expect one percent of the people sign up. They probably won't even be able to pay for their infrastructure.

    These power companies really need to wake up, BPL is dying.

    - Rsync changes from live 3TB array to "warm" 3TB array hosted at aforementioned hosting provider on whatever schedule you need</i>

    Problem is cost, another 3TB setup runs between 10G and 20G. I'm a cheep bastard.

    Great solution if you have way too much money.
    Who is going to pay $20/month to store one CD worth of data.

    Really, if we are talking about less that 200G just use a removable drive and a saftey deposit box.

    What I really need is a backup for my 3T array. Find that and I might consider a couple hundred a month.

    This has always baffled me.
    Instead of bitching that the entire Internet is porn, and some how we have to stop it. Lets just require that "adult" sites use specific TLD's, that makes it trivial to block.

    The thought is that anything on an adult TLD would be allowed. If you were some giant repressed bible thumper you could just block those TLD's. End of story, get the governments off the Internet.

    Still don't get it?
    "We" didn't learn anything from 9/11, but certain people in our government did.
    They learned that terror works, so evertime they want some ridiculous law passed (Patriot Act), or some AssHat elected (Bush) they play the "terrrorist card". People get all scared, and give up civil liberties as fast as they can.

    We have our priorities all screwed up.
    Don't get me wrong 9/11 was bad, I would give my life to have it not happen. The reality is that we lose more people each month to drunk driving.

    Terriorist are just another issue, not even in the top ten.
    This country needs to grow up and stop being afraid.

    The readers you are talking about are extremely low power devices.

    My company manufactures part15 devices that read passive tags at 12 feet. If you weren't worried about FCC legalities, there is no reason that you couldn't read a tag at 100ft.

    Good catch, but the water that they take from the lake doesn't go back into the lake. It goes into the city water supply (which it always did).

    I used to have a '78 Golden Eagle CJ-7.
    In the mud I used to burn 17 gallons of fuel every thirty minutes (big block with a two barrel). At todays fuel prices that would be over a dollar a minute.

    Field day is a blast!
    I spent all day yesterday getting ready, packing in the morning and setting up in the late afternoon.

    Now I just got up, checked my email, and found out that Field day was slashdotted!!!

    In about 8 hours we'll be on the air.
    I'm psyched!

    The g forces aren't of the same magnitude, from HAARP. With a railgun we are in the neighborhood of
    200,000,000 g's.

    Remeber, the reason the Navy wants to use railguns is the huge amount of energy they can deliver to the target. Also recall railguns are EXTREMEMLY inefficient, so every joules going into the round many-many-many are being expended into the structure of the ship.

    You are right about the hot gases.

    I don't know of any electronic equipment manufactured today, that would survive the G-forces.
    Of course that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

    I was an FTG for six years (basically electrician for big guns). I can't imagine how they are going to get a fire control solution for a target 70 miles away. Without guidance, and at that distance the different weather cells between you and the target would throw the round off target.

    I stood about 100 yards away from the New Jersey when she fired all guns starboard. The heat & energy from those guns was incredible. Image an order of magnitude higher. Those little aluminum FFG's would melt their superstructure with one round.

    I still don't understand how you can base the life of your company on a device that operates under Part15 of the FCC rules.

    Lets say you run a business using a device that runs under part15. Then Joe Joes Auto Wrecker buys a licensed radio system on the same frequency. Your business is shut down with no recourse (SP?).

    This same thing happens with WIFI networks under part15. One day your network is fine, supporting hundreds of users, then one guy with a license moves in the area and your entire company network is done for. You can't even complain.

    We need to take a hard look at our spectrum use, part15 should be used for emerging technologies.

    1. Cellphones, the US cellphone technology lags the rest of the world by 5-10 years.

    2. Widely-available DSL?, only in Urban and some suburban areas. Other technologies exist with better range.

    3. Collect calls without human-operator assistance.
    Okay.

    4. Modem speeds? When was the last time they changed 10 years ago?

    Prior to the break of AT&T they had proposed a nationwide rollout of Fiber, think where we would be with that.

    Amateur Radio is cutting edge, the thing that makes it seem obsolete is that they never delete old protocols or modes of operation. For example the same guy may use CW to contact Brazil one night, and an OSCAR (Orbital Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio) Satellite to contact France the next.
